On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 20+ 4-6 Hours/day Between 7PM To 3AM my time after I get off work at 5PM.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? I have helped moderate Teamspeak and Ventrillo for A corporation/Alliance in EVE Online. Otherwise No.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I started playing this year. I do wish I could have seen the Sulaco people talk about.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? I have only played on Paradise and CM, With two rounds on Goon and less than 10 rounds on Yog. I like the higher populations.
Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made: No Previous Applications for Whitelist or any roles. (I intend to apply for CO when possible)
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? Not a staff member anywhere else.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for? No Bans.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? Yes. It has been a while but I have used it previously for EVE Online.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.
1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
► Show Spoiler
- Allow MP's to handle the player, I would talk to the player to determine if it was a accident or misfire. If it was griefing then we can take from there with a warning/note or even a ban if its happened before.
2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
► Show Spoiler
- I am under the impression the ship can not be breached to space by normal means. This tells me it was an Event, Bug or Exploit. I would honestly have to bring in an admin or senior admin on this issue, I don't see how a moderator can handle such a large catastrophic issue solo without making the round bad for many people. Especially if it was caused by unique means or bugs. please do correct me if i'm wrong on this. If its an Event, Carry on sailors. Its part of the round and probably intentional.
3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
► Show Spoiler
- First i would see if a mentor could help the player, I would like to reach out and help these players personally of course. I was new and dumb once and getting reached out too by a mentor right away is what got me to stay on the server. It sucks being lost, alone and confused. But this would be a job for mentors.
4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
► Show Spoiler
- I could ask if any other admins or moderators wished to take the case, Nobody is entitled to speak to anyone in specific. I simply could tell the player enough is enough and issue a warning about the behavior if needed. I would still attempt to help them with their issue of course regardless of the rudeness before escalating the situation.
5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
► Show Spoiler
- Be kind about it and detail why its an issue. We cant have Derp McBeepsky the MP running around with his stun baton out. But still, If its an issue I would inform the player of Rule 12 and why their name is an issue. Even if they have used it for several years. If they want to appeal the reasoning on the forums, By all means they can try.
6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
► Show Spoiler
A: If command has asked for MT's to deploy to help with the FOB and to be armed for it. I would consider that IC and reasonable of the player.
B: If command has NOT asked for MT's to deploy, I would question the player and educate them about ship alert status if they are new. If not its an issue for the MP's.
7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
► Show Spoiler
- Rule 5. No power-gaming. "a standard marine with "a brother in Engineering" does not know how to hack an airlock." A medic is not trained in surgery. To me the same idea applies as the rule example.
8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
► Show Spoiler
- I personally may try to encourage one of the leaders through the method of god/queen mother whispering to them. Such as "Your enemy is weak, you should finished them off to honor the fallen." Or in the alien case of the example. "Your hive was weak, End this to try to avoid your queen mothers ire, Show me your worth and strength!" Something along those lines without being as obvious to most players.
9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
► Show Spoiler
- According to Rule 4. "End of Round Grief (EORG) is fighting and generating any combat logs with friendly players after the round ends and is an immediate 3-hour ban without warning. Exceptions are between normal enemies, such as Marines and Aliens, Marines and UPP, etc." This is not a case of EORG as the CLF Member is HOSTILE and not a POW in this example.
10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
► Show Spoiler
- Let the MP's handle the crazed marine at first, However I would still talk to the player and ask why they were behaving such a way at the round start. This does seem to fall under Rule 4. No griefing "Major shenanigans that may disrupt the normal flow of the round are not allowed at roundstart. This includes big or lethal fights, briefing brawls, riots, and massive equipment restrictions." If they have not been warned about this behavior, I would issue a warning. If they had been warned before, It could be a ban depending how disruptive this marine is.
11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
► Show Spoiler
- Rule 14. Lethal Force: "A fist fight does not suddenly escalate into a gun fight." Heavy Warning if its a first offence, Ban if its happened before. This should be a one time warning needed. If the player has an issue with another player, They can always Ahelp to be safe before acting out in a lethal fashion when unsure.
12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
► Show Spoiler
- I get the Admin+ involved and provide all logs about the incident and screenshots accordingly. The best thing to do is properly inform the Admin+ as best I can and in the propper channels, Such as Slack or discord.
13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
► Show Spoiler
- Tell the one player that its an IC Issue. Because it is. There is a big difference between IC minor racism and someone running around shouting the N-Word non stop.
14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
► Show Spoiler
-Fastest Grief Ban Ever. This guy would need to try to appeal on the forums. I dont see any way someone would not get the Ban Hammer here.
15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
► Show Spoiler
A: Is the hive moving closer to the front line? If so its sad but understandable. If the xenos thought it was safe but the marines pushed and the larva finds itself eating a HEDP It sucks but its a war.
B: Is the larva moving from the hive to the front line with no IC Reason to suicide? Xeno Job Ban. It serves no purpose to help the hive. This is effectively Griefing and would take 100% player effort to go and do. Its not really something that happens by accident. Larvas are not Combat Castes. They should be in safety whenever possible. Evolution from Larva to T1 is a very short time span considering. Combat larva could be a distraction to marines in an emergency. But this is few and far between. I would take the queens consideration of the specific larva into account aswell if needed. It is her hive too.
16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
► Show Spoiler
- This is very Low RP, I would step in and ask it to be toned down if I see it happening. This is a Medium RP server after all. If the player had previous notes for doing such actions It may be escalated further than a warning.
17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
► Show Spoiler
- Xeno language is not the easiest: However, The hivemind is a xeno universal understanding of meaning. Dropship=Bird, boom-tuber=RPG Spec and so on. So even if a xeno was to call the Alamo the Dropship, Its still understood in context and meaning by other Xenos. They dont speak english but we the player do. So its not an issue.
18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
► Show Spoiler
- I would ask the player what they are talking about exactly if its unclear.
A: Are they talking about the natural critters like Stoks and Yiren? - Your in the grey zone here. Multiple colonies have these alien animals but you probably should just call them animals for the sake of IC and not to cause a stir. Even if they are 'alien' animals.
B: Are you talking about Xenomorphs? If so, There is no IC way to know about xenomorphs before the landing and fighting this falls under Rule 6. No Metagaming or Metacommunication. Here comes the notes and warnings. If they have done it before, It could be a ban.
19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
► Show Spoiler
- This one does give me some pause. It Technically would be In-Character, After a player-character has witnessed the pure carnage of battle with xenos and now the ship is going down in flames. I can personally see this as RP. However, Rule 14. "Lethal Force - Do not attack another player without a legitimate, explainable roleplay reason that could be applied in a similar, real-life scenario. A fist fight does not suddenly escalate into a gun fight. Even if you are justified, you are still susceptible to Marine Law." I can see a human doing this. But I would want to take in consideration of the player that was killed and talk to them also and ensure it was actually RP and not someone just running up with a shotgun and ending someones round.
20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
► Show Spoiler
- I would try to talk to the staff member adminchat first, We dont want players negatively impacted by either situation. I dont want to step on another moderators or admins toes infront of players. But I would want to help on the back-side of things so that the right information can (eventually) reach that player. I personally could be wrong aswell and we dont need player confusion or frustration. Nore do we want Staff Members frustrated.
20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
► Show Spoiler
- I go to the next higher authority on the manner (my boss). In this case that would be a Game Admin. (Up from moderator.) And try to provide logs, proof or screenshots accordingly. If it was an Admin, I would go higher up the chain accordingly.
21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
► Show Spoiler
- Shes an adult. Not my personal issue. If its a joke, Great. If its more than a joke and delving into harassment, Then Rule 3. "Don’t be a dick - Harassment, racism, bigotry, homophobia, exploiting bugs, cheating, hacking, and just plain being an asshole." May come into use. Theres a difference between The old days of XBOX smack talking on Halo CE's Blood gulch and going after someone to blatantly be a dick.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
My answers are based on my personal belief that i should not attribute malice to baldness. All players deserve a chance in bad situations to explain themselves. We all make mistakes afterall. They can be handled professionally and accordingly to the severity of the mistake.
I really want to answer FAX's from players and help them in their RP. Honestly I love to RP and see people have a fun time.
I have learned from my mistakes that are on my account notes The last one being over a month old. And I hope to help the server and other players. I really do enjoy this community. Thank you for the consideration and time to read this!
