Biolock- Staff Application

Post by Biolock » 11 May 2015, 00:40

Byond ID:

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Timezone: Mountain Standard Time

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 14-30+

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? I was at one point the head of staff on a populated Half Life 2 RP server (when HL2RP was still cool mind you!), I was also an admin 1 on Unbound Travels, the players there liked me, and I trust any given player or staff member will give me a strong and positive reference.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I did not, I've only played this one, though I was playing since before CM split with New Eden (THAT'S RIGHT, I GO ON REDDIT!)

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before? No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? I am not, I semi-recently retired from the UT staff team for reasons I don't want to discredit the server for.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No

If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation? First I would freeze the player (I understand that generally staff should uphold a "laissez- faire" policy, but when a player is blatantly griefing I feel it is better to clamp that at the neck), I would then rejuvenate everyone who was injured by the player (so the round isn't halted any further), and then finally speak to the player about his offense, making it clear that was he did was against the rules and then administer a punishment fit for his reactions to being intervened with (if he clearly understood what he was doing was wrong and agreed that this would not happen again the punishment would be much less severe to someone who says "Fuck CM!" and then disconnected).

You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender? I would message the player asking if he has read the rules, then I would specify the reason in which I ask the question, if the player shows understanding as to why he is not allowed to do that and agrees to not let it happen again I would make it clear that this was his warning and then leave a note.

The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do? I would, ICLY, do a "bio-scan" and report that there are only a few "non-marine" biosignatures left on station and provide a general location for them if the two factions do not contact each other for some time.

A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do? First I would ask him how he broke the code and got napalm grenades.... jkjk. First I would ask him why he threw the grenade into logistics, and based on his response he would likely receive a day long ban for the offense depending on the severity actually effect (did it kill people? Was he just throwing it into an empty room? etc). Next I would question the doctor as to why he was producing napalm grenades as a medical practitioner, since he was giving them out it was likely not with malicious intent; I would warn him against creating weapons as a doctor and leave a note on his Ckey.

What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night? Personally, I'm pretty good at just kind of rolling with it, I don't really get offended at personal remarks and, truth be told, I'd probably joke around with him for a bit and try and be friends with him. If he continues to just be bashful I would explain that, while I personally am not offended, the way he is speaking is unacceptable (to anyone, not just staff members). If it continued and he refused to tone it down I would administer a two day ban so that he understands that kind of behavior is not tolerated in this community.

Any additional information you'd like to add? Not really, feel free to post about any notes I may have on my profile. I'm just coming back from ranger school (NOT MARINES, I KNOW!), so my availablity has just begun to spike a bit. I look forward to getting a response. If you want character references, JTdrow, Jamiedigweed, and Isratosh have all agreed to give me reference (those three were my direct superiors). Of course, I also trust that you can ask anyone from Unbound Travel's playerbase. "Majora", a player on your community, is the former host of the HL2RP server I use to be the head of staff on, and will also give you a reference should you want it.

Thank you!

+1 from me. However when it comes down to the your mom deal we are not here to make small talk unless things are completely calm... The proper thing to do is simply state that they are breaking rule 8 and if they continue than mute them for about 5 minutes and tell them to cool off. If they continue after that administer punishment, Other than that pretty good app.

Of course I'll abide by what upper management sees as the proper response. However, I feel (from my own personal experience) that if you try to level with a player (not stoop to their level, mind you), they are generally more compliant than if you try to administer autonomous judgement. Of course if that doesn't work, there's little choice other than utilize your verbs.

p.s. The response times from staff on the forums is unreal.

Well than its settled... I think if Rah and Apop approve your worth a shot. Approved. Wait for Apop to toss you your trial. Good luck.
