Westhybrid's Moderator Application
Byond ID: Westhybrid
Colonial Marines Character: Darius Ico
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Timezone: Pacific Standard Time
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 21
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Not in specifics to Space Station Servers, but I have been a part of a Staff Team for a gaming community website, Undead-Xbox, where we regularly hosted games weekly for many hours at a time. I was mostly in charge of hosting those games on the regular seasons, and I did so for three years.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I played on the Nostromo Server for a decent amount of time, and have been on the Alpha since it has started.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before? No, I have not.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? I am not currently a staff member of any other gaming communities.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? I have not.
If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation?
-Tell everyone to stop, considering the situation would be hectic. Depending on the damage, would put the offending marine(s) to sleep. Message the offender(s), inform them of the rule violation, investigate the cause of the fighting, determine the damage, player history, etc. If this is their first offense, I would set the health of both parties to full after explaining to them the violation of the rules and warning them. Mostly something the MP's would deal with from then on. Would remind the marine(s) to review server rules regarding griefing the round and marine law.
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
-Message the xeno in question to seal the breach immediately. Given that they can't, I would repair the breach and message them back about their violation of the rules concerning entering space and creating a breach. Adding their warning to their notes, the round would continue on. If they're a repeat offender, a more serious punishment might be given. Would remind the xeno to review the server rules specific to xenomorph players.
The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
-Sending a message through the Command Console to the Command Staff, in an IC manner, inform them that the nuclear codes cannot be authorized, and urge them to continue fighting the aliens conventionally. Also wish them luck.
A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
-Go into OOC and tell all marines to stop throwing the grenades, hopefully to calm down any hectic situations. Identify the perpetrators, both the grenade throwing marine AND the medic who made them. Inform the medic that making grenades and dishing them out is not their job, and add their actions to their notes, warning them to not do so again. Would also consider delivering a ban of the appropriate setting, depending on the intentions of the medic. Then message the marine, repeat the same explanation. In addition, inform both of the rule-breakers that firebombs and napalm can disrupt atmospherics in a ship, causing more than just initial problems during the round. Regardless of intentions, aliens in the room or no, the grenades should not have been thrown. All actions for each of the violators would be added to their notes. Would also remind the violators to review the server rules.
What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
-Deal with it responsibly and ignore the player. If they were spamming, a warning would go out for them to stop, and at worst case, a mute would be issued.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
I'm a big fan of the server, and I'd like to offer whatever help I can. I'm experienced at working with these sorts of communities, and I think I can contribute in terms of keeping things running smoothly during the heavy hours of the server, or otherwise. Thanks for your consideration.

Not sure who you are in game or on the forums. This application was also your second post even though your account was made back in july. Responce to the questions don't seem well thought out. So for now I'm going to have to go with.

I mostly just feel like you're just really un-experienced in terms of moderating this sort of thing. The answers were pretty alright, but your activity on and off server is what worries me the most personally. I'm neutral for now.

Your answers were ok, but you seem inexperienced and not very active....your times are OK and everything seems not bad, I'll be neutral on this.

Neutral- Your answers are decent and out of the few times I have seen you in-game, you weren't doing anything wrong. However, your inactivity and lack of experience bring my +1 to a Neutral.

Breaching is no longer against our rules... but this is basically a outdated trick question anyways so it's cool.Westhybrid wrote: You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. You don't always need to respond like that, I mean really what's the point of having the job if you cant have a little fun XD, but otherwise it's all good.Westhybrid wrote: The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. You can always just give him a dayban or as I recommend, report it to a admin/head. Players like that tend to be issue players and wont stop for any real reason so more action is needed sometimes.Westhybrid wrote: What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?

Overall this application is golden, your forum activity is lacking "somewhat", you have no in game notes and the times i have seen you it's been good.
So on that note I am placing a +1

Re: Westhybrid's Moderator Application
Hey guys. I agree fully that my forum activity has been lacking, and it's mostly come down to that I'm still trying to become fully acquainted with the community and the forum itself. I'm getting into the swing of things on here, and I can guarantee without a doubt that forum inactivity won't be a problem with me, regardless of how this application plays out. That being said, I am on the server fairly often, and I've been playing fairly often every week for the last few months, trying to get to know the community through the server rather than the forum, which to be honest is something I should've been balancing. I've gotten to know a good amount of people on the server, and am very well acquainted with the way things roll during rounds, both from a player's perspective and from observing the staff/moderator's responsibilities. My answers in the application reflected my experiences on the server thus far.
I know this is no excuse for a lacking in the forum activity department, but I'm hoping my activity on the server itself and my conduct there can help in supporting the fact that I am not a nobody just here to strut in expecting a moderator position. Anyone who has seen me play on the server hopefully can vouch that I've been conducting myself responsibly, and I'm looking to contribute in larger ways. If anyone has any other questions, I'm ready to answer. <3

Re: Westhybrid's Moderator Application
All players reserve the right to ask their applications be placed on hold. You can very easily ask for it to be held, fix your mistakes and small stat problems. Then ask for it to be reevaluate. It's a very professional method of fixing mistakes, and you can get people to change their opinions. Keep in mind however, only Head-Staff and Host votes count towards you getting hired.Westhybrid wrote:Hey guys. I'm going to have to keep my choice. Your not very active on the forums. I was hoping maybe that would have changed but most of your post are in this here application. You have a total of 12 posts. Your second one was was this application. For my opinion to change your forum activity would have to increase substantialy.

Re: Westhybrid's Moderator Application
That's understandable. Just something I still have to work on. However, since this application was posted and I received feedback about my forum activity, I didn't think it was appropriate to be posting all over the place. I didn't want that to be misconstrued as me only posting on the forums to receive +1's on my App. I'll probably continue to be active on the forum at my own pace. Despite not posting often, I am on every day.TR-BlackDragon wrote:I'm going to have to keep my choice. Your not very active on the forums. My vote will remain a -1 due to you having over a week since my last post on this thread, yet you have not improved your forum activity and or become more frequent in the server.

Re: Westhybrid's Moderator Application
I do not understand the priority "forum activity" is having on deciding whether or not to vote for a player whose actions in the game speak for themselves. I've never played Colonial Marines, let alone Space Station 13 before West had introduced it to me and let me tell you that I'm glad it was West to have introduced it rather than someone else, because he has been nothing but a helpful person to get me into the swing of things and an enjoyment to be playing with. He takes whatever position he is in and treats it with the utmost importance, and is always willing to help those in need. And given that I see him play on Colonial Marines everyday, I also don't understand how people could say "never seen you on before".
TL;DR: He's a damn fine marine. +1
