Jack McIntyre - Moderator Application
Byond ID: Jack McIntyre
Colonial Marines Character: Adam 'Apache' Hunter
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Timezone: Eastern
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 8-10, not really sure sometimes I can get on alot and other times I'm not
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Yes I was a game master in Faces of Mankind: Fall of the Dominion, I was GM Arrow. I basically made sure no one was cheating at the game as well as moderating the forum to make sure things didn't get to out of hand, since we had a lot of "Forum Warriors". I also got to hold some events which was fun or participate with other Game masters. Myself and a few other vets of the older game before it was re released were hoping to bring it back to it's glory days, but I had to step down due to working on my college thesis.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? Nope
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before? No
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No
If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation? I would get everyone to stop either freezing them or just getting everyone to just stop by talking to them. I would then question the marine who was firing their weapon, to see if they had a good reason in shooting up the place. If they don't then I would ban them from the server for a few hours, just kinda of let them know that griefing will not be tolerated on the server. I would update their notes and heal anyone who was caught up in the shooting and let the round progress, if you let them keep shooing up the place or people just stay dead it ruins the round for them straight from the get go.
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
I would not punish them unless they used meta knowledge for example making a breach where the shuttles were at before the shuttles were called or before the marines even arrived due to the xenos having no knowledge where the marines would escape from. However due to the rule change of breaching is alright I would not do too much more then just making sure that it was done without any meta involved.
The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
I would inform the command staff and crew with a message that nukes are very expensive or another message informing them that it may take a while to get the codes to send them and they should continue the fight.
A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
I would stop the players involved and question them on their motives in doing so as well as letting the medic know that they should not have the knowledge to make the grenades and they really not reason to hand them out. If they wanted grenades they could just have the Requstiion officer as well as seeing if they were greifing or just happened to give a grenade to a marine who was griefing. I would make sure that I checked the notes before making a decision on the medic, if it was their first time give them a warning and put it in their notes, but if it was a regular thing then give them a ban for a few hours. I would then check the marine who threw the grenades notes and if it was a first offense and had a reasonable story then I would let them off with a warning then I would give them a warning and fix the damage done by the grenade as well as healing anyone who was harmed in the explosion. If the grenadier didn't have a good story or notes that showed he was a known griefer or rule breaker then I would put a ban on them as well as update the notes.
What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
I would laugh it off, and if he/she had broken the rules I would bring things back to the subject because it happens, people get upset if you are catch them doing something wrong. I was a Resident Assistant with the place I went to college and I know if you caught someone having a party in their room, sometimes you had the people who got in your face, the people who would throw insults at you, but just keep on the subject of the rules they broke and you deal with it accordingly, if you get upset then it will just let them know that one they are getting to you and may wish for them to keep insulting you. It's a game, who cares what someone says.
Any additional information you'd like to add? I would be new to the controls and power that the mods and admins have, but if I get some help learning those then I wouldn't mind helping out. I know you guys were looking for new people and first I wasn't going to apply, but I figured since i have some time before basic training I could help out until you guys got more people for moderator positions and see how things went. Thanks for reading this over.

-Neutral- Leaning towards +1, answers have a tone of comedy to them over seriousness, I would give you a +1 do to your application being really good. However, your punishment times are really short of what they should be based on the staff protocols.
When a player commits an offense multiple times, the punishment is increased based on their notes. Additionally, griefers who get banned multiple times aren't given hour bans, they are given a few days up-to a possible perma.if it was their first time give them a warning and put it in their notes, but if it was a regular thing then give them a ban for a few hours.

Thanks for the feedback, and I suppose you have a point. Should have read it more carefully, I did not mean to put the idea that I would just use hours when I know the bans can go for days and weeks as well as perma if it is serious enough. I just mean if it was for example their second offense or third then just a few hours depending on the damage they had done as well. I apologize for the confusion.

+1 well recognized player at least to me, engages in good RP and has a solid understanding of the game and rules and a fair judge.

Changing my -Neutral- to a +1. Mistakes are made, and you do seem to actually be very active on both the forums and the game. Clarity is quality, always be sure to know everything clearly and to write player notes and ban reasons clearly.Adam Hunter wrote:Thanks for the feedback, and I suppose you have a point. +1 from me. The answers are generally pretty good, just need a little bit of fine tuning and I actually fully recognize you from in game and out of game.

He is a well known role player among the players. I will garauntee, he will use words before he uses violence as a Military Police. He can take those habits/traits into his job as a moderator. I've never had problems with him.

From all my interactions with him he's been very even-keeled. He acts very maturely when discussing contentious issues in deadchat and IC, knows how to separate IC and OOC in terms of emotional involvement, and is very hard to provoke into being rash and confrontational. I think those are solid qualities to have as staff. He's on fairly regularly, RPs well, and follows the rules.

Any interaction I've had with Jack or in-game Apache has been a positive one. He's a very well known community member and very level headed at everything he does. We could really use him. +1. Plus, I actually call him by his marine's nickname, so that's another good thing.

Re: Jack McIntyre - Moderator Application
I did not think I would get this much support when putting in a application I figured there would be a lot of back and forth on it, but I would just like to take the time to thank everyone who has given me their approval and their support for this application. I honestly didn't really see myself as someone really known around the community that much, just someone who is a regular, but still I just want to thank all of you. It means a lot to know that I have this support from you all.

I've been watching him in game and so far he has had no issues. He is a rather good rper and is good with the people. I think he would make a great addition to the staff of the server.
