MilesWolfe Moderator Application
Byond ID:
MilesWolfe
Colonial Marines Character:
Miles 'Boss' Wolfe
Age:
22
Gender:
Male
Timezone:
(UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Free all hours of the day with no other commitments. So any time from about 10 am to 10 pm, any day of the week.
Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)?
Yes
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
No
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
Yes, I played pre alpha for about half a year.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?
No
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No, not that I'm aware of, I do my best best to to listen to staff, and frequently go over the rules if I'm uncertain about something, or simply ask staff before taking action.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
Pm him to stop, and ask him why he's firing his weapon. If its a simple matter of a common miss-click, and no one is harmed, I'd give him a warning, asking him to be more careful. However, if said player is running around, firing his weapon at other players, I'd knock him unconscious to prevent further damage, ask him why he performed his actions via pm. And inform him that he continues, he'll receive a ban. Afterwards, Id heal the injured players, and punish him, should he continue.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Check the logs to determine the cause of the breach, and fix it, depending on if were caused by player or some outside element out of the players hands. If player caused, Id asked them why they chose to perform the actions that cause said breach, and if needed, go over a proper punishment with other members of staff. If no staff are present, Id give them a warning not to cause a breach again, and if arguing pursues, issue a ban from the round. If the breach is caused by an outside element, rather than players, id have it fixed.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Responding as central command, refuse to give the marines the codes, instead informing them of the situation in the form of a bioscan, and order the marines to go down finish the job.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
Napalm is banned, as it affects the atmosphere of an area and can spread. First Id inform the research of this, and give them a job ban for irresponsibly creating banned weapons, and handing them out to irresponsible marines. As for the marine, Id ask him why he used the grenade, also informing him of the ban placed on the item, and most likely issue a temporary ban, between a couple hours to a few days. And go over with a head, if the atmos in logistics should be fixed.
5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
Rule 3 is pretty clear on how to deal with this, mute them, and add an extension to their punishment. I wouldnt even answer them, such behavior cannot be tolerated towards staff members.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
This here confuses me, its clear violation of marine rule two, however, I'm not really sure as to what really would count as a fair punishment. So with that in mind. first Id pm them to notify them of the issue, and give them a verbal warning, and request that they change their name for future rounds, and converse with other staff, about what would be the proper punishment for said player, and if any punishment at all should be given.
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
The server has not been around for several years, and Id promptly notify him that all players are required to review the rules when first joining the server, where it clearly explains what qualifies as an acceptable name, and also that it is his responsibility to know said rules before hand. If arguing persists, Id go over a proper punishment with the other staff members, as this its not clear on how to deal with name issues.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Notify them immediately, informing them that the medical staff are not marines and are barred from carrying weaponry (with the exception of a service pistol and a two clips in an emergency situation such as an enemy boarding) and instruct them drop it, and do their job. If the player persists, they will receive a swift job ban, for job incompetence.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Id notify them to stop, and state that if they wish to do surgery, to instead join as a sulaco doctor next time. Medics are not allowed to perform any surgery, no matter how big or small. If they persist, they will receive a job ban.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Just as with rule three, Id respond with a mother bio-scan, informing the marines of their obvious advantage in manpower, along with giving them the general areas of where the aliens are before strongly insisting that they head back down, and finish the job.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Immediately give the player a three hour ban, no warnings, in accordance to the rules. End of round grief is no top be tolerated.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Notify the marine to stop, asking why he is a slipping other marines. If he continues his behavior after the warning, he will receive a round ban, no more, no less.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Notify both marines marines, get both sides of their stories, and check the combat logs to see if the situation was properly escalated through Ic. If the death was a result of single punch, rather than an actual fight between the two characters. The killer would receive a ban and the other player would receive a revive/heal. If the death was a result of a fight occurring in character, in which both marines fired on each other, Its a lethal force issue, and thus both players are on their own and the situation must be resolved through ic, via command and or MP intervention.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
I mostly look around the suggestions and post there, but I play the game very frequently. I went by the name bigbossbase before changing my forum name to match my byond key.

Re: MilesWolfe Moderator Application
Goddamnit, this motherfucker. He is literally the worst player I have ever had to deal with on the server.
Kidding, +1. Give him a trial, never really had a bad personal experience with him.

I personally don't know you, but I don't personally know anyone on the server anymore. Aside from that, your answers were reasonable and you're free quite often. You seem perfectly fine to trial in my opinion. +1 and all that.
