- a. Determine the bare minimum punishment. There's no reason to jump straight to a ban, especially if the incident didn't cause a major disruption to the game.
a. Contact anyone involved and get their side of the story. Also, check logs. It may not be immediately visible WHO caused the situation, and you may need to talk to several people to figure it out. Try to do this as quickly and efficiently.
Description of the incident:
If you were to look at this ban and take it at face value, then you would think it's pretty deserved. Except the ban reason stated here is a gross misrepresentation--if not an outright fabrication--of what happened. It's best if I start five days ago in the Ice Colony. I was playing a crusher, when someone nested multiple hosts smack dab in the middle of the hallway with no walls or even membranes to hem. As you might imagine, I accidentally ran over one or two. One of them died. They both bursted. The admin was chill about it, we spoke, I got off with a warning. These things happen, but no real harm was done.
Forward to the present day. We're storming the Alamo. There's a man trying to escape, so we all ganked him like good xenos would. I almost managed to stomp him while he was down, but the queen dragged him to safety, to which she later ordered not to harm him. I obeyed, nothing else was done. He was later infected once dragged to safety. Everything was fine.
As everyone started to settle in, one infected host (about to burst) got hauled inside. I accidentally run over them. They don't die, everything's fine. I receive an admin PM about it the EXACT moment the guy gives birth. Apparently, the person who reported me (most likely the queen) told the admin that I had stomped them SEVERAL times and against her orders--which is a flagrant lie. With all due respect, I told the admin this wasn't true, and if they'd like, they could check the logs. They later admitted they couldn't access the logs (or simply couldn't be assed) and told me I was getting a ban regardless because it was a repeat offense. They kept citing erroneous information they obtained from the reporter, and went by it. Pure hearsay. There was absolutely nothing impartial about their demeanor towards me--and far from professional. No matter how much I tried to explain, they wouldn't heed to a single word I said and they wouldn't bother checking the logs.
They'd made up their mind the moment I was reported. It all boiled down to "I don't think it was accidental." No evidence backing, just word of mouth and their personal judgment. And with the story explained as succinctly as I could, you can see how the ban reason stated is a complete butchering of what really happened.
And everything I've told you here? I told finefire (albeit a bit less formally).
Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc): I couldn't log the entire conversation due to chat clutter. I'm not sure if someone can dig them up.
How you would punish the accused: That's not my call to make, but I'd want my admins investigating BEFORE jumping to conclusions and sticking by them.
