Staff Report - Driecg36
Your Byond Key: Erwinorosco831
Your Character Name: Gus Compton
Their Byond key: Driecg36
Approximate time and date of the incident (Central Us Time for best results): 3AM CST 4AM EST
Which Staff Protocols (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=5647) were broken: Protocol 3 and 4?
Description of the incident: Essentially, earlier today I was in the CIC as a Staff Officer, then a marine in medical knifed a doctor, and they called for help. With there being no military police, I went to investigate, and when I arrived in the medical bay the marine was on the ground, presumably resting. I aimed my weapon at him, and then put it down after he stayed down. I then went to the brig to grab cuffs, and then returned. When I arrived, I attempted to put cuffs on the marine but Miranda, who I currently have a player report in on decided to shove and punch me, and then I attempted to aim my weapon at her, but I had inadvertently switched from aim to fire, and fired a single shot at her. I then dragged the marine to the brig, where I intended to hold him when the admin decided to intervene, after he had not done so against the marine, apparently no one had contacted him. However, I feel that as the marine was breaking the rule in the first place my mistake of firing at the synthetic should be overlooked. I have not had a single note besides this since I returned from a permanent ban even with playing several rounds a day. I understand this is a bit to ask, but it was truly a mistake firing at Miranda, and the rest was justified with there being no MPs on staff.
Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc):
How you would punish the accused: I would not prefer a punishment of the admin, but rather a revocation of the notes and warning against my record. I intended no harm by attempting to aim at the synthetic, but it was provoked. I came attempting to prevent further harms against the doctors who had been hurt by a obviously griefing marine. It was my mistake of not ahelping beforehand, but I presumed the doctors would've been smart enough to do that on my own, obviously a miscalculation on my part. I do think that Driecg was too hard on me, given that I was merely trying to prevent further harm and rulebreaking after I assumed admins were doing nothing.

Re: Staff Report - Driecg36
I had not been informed of the situation in medbay, and therefore I could not deal with it. All I saw was an SO shooting a synth. Aim intent makes very little difference, as you should never use aim intent unless you intend to shoot whoever you're aiming at. You cannot reasonably complain about staff not handling a situation if you don't even bother to ahelp it.
I was very lenient leaving it at just a warning, considering how hostile and unfriendly you were in PMs (which, may I add, made it take longer to deal with the original griefer since I was the only moderator on). You also proceeded to immediately log off after we were done talking, presumably to make this report.
I specifically dropped the issue of you enforcing marine law once I realized there were no active MPs, something I informed you of multiple times.
Honestly, the warning was lenient considering your note history and your attitude.

I disagree. My laptop died and I had to go get my charger, and afterwards I forgot to rejoin the server while I was writing both reports. I understand that you were not aware of the issue, but I was attempting to solve something for you. I don't think that I should be punished for that, and you are wrong. People aim all the time without the intent to shoot on colonial marines.

Re: Staff Report - Driecg36
My attitude was solely based on trying to solve something for the server, and getting completely shafted for it. I have not had a single note or issue since returning from perma, and I thought that should've been taken with way more weight that you give me credit, given that it was a simple misunderstanding that I shot the Synth.

You should not attempt to solve things for staff in the future. If you see rules being broken, ahelp.

As I said, I presumed that the doctors had already ahelped and no one was doing anything. I suppose I should always report stuff I see even if there are already other people there, but that was not my first instinct.

I don't personally see anything wrong with how driecg adressed this issue; you tried to handle something you weren't meant to, fucked up and learned a valuable lesson as a result.

Right, halt any back and forth conversations for now. Let's get into the situation at hand.

I didn't know you ghosted when your laptop died? Such unfortunate timing too.

Re: Staff Report - Driecg36
There is absolutely nothing wrong with how this was handled. When a staff member handles a breach of rules, regardless of how small it is, noting the person who did so is a common and expected practice.
We can't always handle everything that happens on the server unless we're informed or happen to see a log come up of it. Should the first guy have gotten talked to? Sure. But without us being aware of it, there's no way that could happen.

As you have so gracefully point out I should have ahelped, and I will do so in the future. I see that, and will remember to ahelp even if I presume that another person would've already done so.
