Your Byond Key: JeanManche
Your Character Name: Praetorian (83) (Warrior (83) at that time)
Their Byond key: KillJaden
Approximate time and date of the incident (Central Us Time for best results): The round just ended.
Which Staff Protocols (http://www.colonial-marines.com/viewtop ... =57&t=5647) were broken: 5 et 6 (Punishment and Pin notes)
Description of the incident: I decided to play with my friend as Xenos, because of the mutators update rendering marine gameplay as painful.
So, we decided to make a warrior gang, for the fun of making it and punching marines to death.
It seems like during the round, Ventyas, my co-warrior, got PMed by Killjaden, for metacomming with me. Which isn't the case, because we were metabuddying.
We followed each other every time, we didn't lose sight of each others, and when we did, well, we just rallied back to Queen, or on the frontline until we saw each other again. I wrote IC indications/orders to impulse movement when we were at a resting position. If he moves, I follow. If I move, he follows. That's just our rule of conduct (like marines).
Metacomming is using OOC comms to gain an IC advantage, for example : telling to my friend that there are marines at my location, while he is not near me, without using the hivemind.
On this situation, I was just playing with a friend. Because it's a multiplayer game and I want to play with him. Just like runner gangs or lurker gangs form up. Just like marines following other friendly marines without barely talking, because they want to play with people they trust.
Regarding pure facts :
- This is the only trace of what could be reported as "meta" as I stated that I wanted to stay warrior with Ventyas, instead of evolving as Prae.
- This trace doesn't involve metacomming as using OOC intel for IC gain. It is a trace of metabuddying.
- PM of KillJaden was stating that what I said was a proof of metacomming, while it is metabuddying.
Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc): Well, logs of the PMs, and the screenshot above.
How you would punish the accused: I just want the note removed. Metacomming =/= Metabuddying. I play with friends, because that's what I seek to do after a day of work.

Re: Staff Report : Killjaden
Heya! Ventyas (second warrior) here.
I just wanna add that at the round begginning, I told that I was going for warrior (as shown in the logs) and as all larvas were around the Queen, my friend heard it IC too. So the fact that JeanManche told that we were willing to both play warrior is kinda legit in terms of IC knowledge even if I did not personally thought about it at the moment of the mod PM.

Re: Staff Report : Killjaden
I am going to be perfectly honest here, It is a very minor issue yeah. At the time I just handled it quick and because a player seemed to be bothered by it. Though I am just gonna say,I could have just investigated, Asked. And not apply any punishment. It's a very minor issue and not really that big of a deal. At the time I thought I would apply a note and warning to avoid possible future "Metabuddying" / Metacommunication. Looking at it now, it seems a little silly so removing the note should be good.

Re: Staff Report : Killjaden
Okay, I've gone in-game and confirmed that the notes pertaining to this incident were already removed from both Ventyas and JeanManche by Killjaden.
Based on what I can perceive from this incident, it does seem like it was ill-investigated compared to how it should have been. However, these are the sorts of things we bring new moderators on as Trials for. It can be easy to get caught up in trying to enforce the rules properly, that one rushes themselves into thinking that a punishment must be applied, or they aren't doing things correctly. The reality is, it is better to assume the best of people and not apply a punishment unless you're sure. Particularly if the damage inflicted by the issue is minimal.
I myself had the same happen to me during my trial, thus I can't really hold this against Killjaden unless it keeps happening. Given that he realized his mistake on his own, and worked to rectify it himself, I honestly do not foresee a repeat of this incident.
Resolved.
