Your Byond Key: Outboarduniform

Your character name: Juan 'Rook' Siganto

Their character name: Wyatt Hoopengarner

Their Byond key (optional - if you know it): N/A

Approximate time and date of the incident (Central US Time for fastest results): 7:30 PM 23rd of October

What rule(s) were broken: Griefing

Description of the incident: Someone released superheated phoron , which ruined the round , killed many marines(and aliens) , and made the hangar inhospitable.

Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc): http://pasteboard.co/1BpPkYMN.png

How you would punish the accused: at least a 3 week ban. Releasing superheated phoron just because the aliens arrived is just plain bullshit

Hello there, Wyatt here.

I made sure to bring down phoron and oxygen during the alert that xenos were coming after the queen had used the console.

Fire burns and kills which seemed like a pretty good way of killing off the alien scum and protecting the rest of the sulaco.

It appears to me that xenos are mad that atmos can be used against them just like how they continually use atmos against the marines now.

The phoron fire caused no lag to the server, nor did it destory areas of the station. In this case it appears the xenos and people are just mad that they had atmos turned on them like it is continually turned upon the marines these days. This is completely within the rules and allowed, it does not break the firebomb rule because napalm causes lag and other things make the station irreparable. Atmos will eventually process phoron out of the system and cool the rooms all the while the top deck of the sulaco remains unaffected and safe.

If one considers this griefing I fail to see how aliens continually venting the sulaco cannot be considered griefing. Especially how often xenos vent sulaco when there are not even defenses setup yet.

Was Queen that moment, will just add some background info.
1. Become Queen after the very first Queens death.
2. Very good hive-daughters repulse an attack and take over planetside, some marines retreat.
3. Prepare an invasion, call the bird. modify the bird, get most of the hive onboard.
4. Arrive,(i five seconds) whoosh-plasma, whoosh-fire, being thrown around, most tiers lower then 3 die. (nearly instantly)
5. We still get some captives, the glorious infected marines cut the Queen in close combat and breach the shuttle with a SADAR.
Atmos major victory.

Main problem is we all- marines and aliums, got robbed of a good final showdown. Sad.

I agree with Wyatt here. Also, OP, you spammed the whole dead chat with your crying. Stop being so salty, it's just a game.

i didn`t spam deadchat with anything. I barely spoke on deadchat. Wyatt was trying to justify it though. and tbh , deadchat was probably made for people to whine and bitch

Not commenting on the situation so much as a character witness for Wyatt. He did mention to me in LOOC that he likes rounds without admins because "the rp can floor more freely" if that affects this in any way. I think doing things simply because the admins aren't on is a shit attitude, personally.

Hey there, buds. Loved the fire, not particularly mad, but have to toss in my two cents and can't really say the grief is capable of being justified. It pretty much thoroughly destroyed several marines and the hard working alien force and compromised the lower deck of an expensive military vessel with superheated air and pressure differentials that no softsuit on the ship could survive through to repair. One should also probably not toss in references to a mildly controversial topic (Alien breaching, the thing that occurs by a select few of angsty players) as evidence backing their claim of 'My canister of phoron was of dubious merit.'

Most of the deadchat was pretty angry at Wyatt, and it was well deserved, not mentioning how prior events of plasma grief have ended in the ban and revival of multiple aliens; defending it has pretty much just flooded the dchat with negative speech and normie ree's followed by him repeating a single post and tossing a red herring about his victories against a disoriented queen with a fireaxe. With marine defenses and three rows of electrical grilles a round, I doubt phoron fires were the only solution.

Should halve that suggested ban, though. Just a round out of hundreds.

Didn't do it at all since no admins were on, low-pop admins can confirm we've had good RP quite often with low-pops and that admins aren't needed as much when folks are chill and RP, also this was completely within the rules, an admin being on or not doesn't change the situation. All it changes is the salt since an admin would have hit the server with a 'man up and deal with it' for deadchat or muted deadchat like they do when the salt levels are too high.

Wyatt is doing a great job showing how unbalanced atmos rules are. Call him an activist, if you want.

Wyatt , the problem was that in doing so , you killed 5 marines (maybe more)

While Wyatt sometimes does dumb things in game, I'm not sure I'd consider this intentional grief since its main goal was to not to fuck over fellow marines. I've seen accidental phoron fires and poorly placed OB's cause massive friendly marine casualties, but I don't recall any of those being judged as intentional grief ny staff. Anyway, just wanted to chime in as a doctor who dealt with the aftermath of the incident.

There probably should be clearer rules under the firebomb/napalm section since I know of at least one round where a controlled phoron fire was judged to be an acceptable defensive move by admins.

Honestly siding with Wyatt on this. While I'm not a direct witness, I've been following this situation through this thread and in the chat box.

How is this ANY different than aliens breaching a defense marines struggled and worked hard on to set up, just so they can roflstomp them without the marines being able to do anything?

Why should this be treated any differently than breaching? Both are an abuse of atmos, so the point is moot. Wyatt is right to bring up aliens breaching into his argument. Aliens breaching can screw over both sides, just as much as controlled phoron fires are.

Now, 90% of the people posting here are more than likely people that mainly play alien or were one of the aliens that got dedded.

Now, aliens strangely don't complain when aliens breach and they win. When marines think of a counter play, they do. See the pattern? Why should aliens be given a one move win all strategy on the Sulaco and the marines not? Sure, Wyatt incurred a few marine casulties, but he won the war and stopped the infestation from spreading to the US didn't he?

Ship can easily go to port to get fixed up. The dead marines woulda died anyway, so whats the difference? Because the marines were smart and put the fire on the lower deck instead of upper and won?

There is next to no reason as to how this is ANY different from aliens abusing atmos. Whatsoever. You can sit here and say 'bla bla, marines didn't get to make an epic last stand', but in reality it is not any different than aliens breaching into space to circumvent defenses just so they can roflstomp the marines with little effort and casulties.

If you're gunna make controlled fires against the rules, or classify it as griefing, you may as well do the same to intentional breaching as it is the exact same concept.

ruined the round for the aliens players?man, and what about the marines when they got a ton of breaches?
so you are saying the marines cannot do something for defense themselves?i think this is very balanced, the aliens get the breaches, the marines got the phoron
say hello to the atmos abuse in both sides

I'm going to contribute here, as the hard-working squad engineer that repaired the whole mess after the fire. From what I saw after cleaning up the left over phoron, and patching a breach in the hangar, there was 3 marine corpses that I saw in the hangar bay. People said there were many more, but I never saw them while fixing up the damage.
The damage(Breach +phoron spill under engineering) took maybe 5-9 minutes max to fix (Not counting the time I got face hugged by a stray hugger, and needed surgery for), and return to normal air while fixing it by myself.

Sure, the aliens can be salty about the phoron death. But, isn't that basically the same kind of saltiness marines get from breaching? And even in the comparrisson, where theres a few air tanks for maybe a quarter of the marines on the sulaco, only a small fraction of aliens are fire immune (Read as ravagers and queen).

Even so, Aliens are players too, and with the inability to combat instant death, and taking them out of the round, I'd probably be a bit angry too.

The only really /griefy/ issue I see with this, was the death of the marines, which people say were greater then the number of corpses I saw, while working the repairs.

There are cases in which this tactic can be allowed if done correctly which it rarely ever is. While Atmospheric grief is by far one of our most enforced rules there are rare occurrences when they are justified such as when a marine or the entire marine team decides that it is within best interest to commit tactics of sabotage in order to save a sector from infestation. To be honest I am going to point out that hey aliens. You ruin rounds almost every time you attack by what almost appears as meta by breaching the sulaco's cryo cells. In the end regardless the logs were looked through thoroughly and this tactic for this time has been deemed justified
