New Specialist Option

Post by Karmac » 04 Dec 2016, 10:14

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Allow the Specialist to take a much more defensive weapon, something that solidifies them as 'FOB/LZ Defender', as opposed to engineers mining the shit out of everywhere, or Snipers camping the FOB because why not. A man-portable Mortar.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This will promote more intelligent use of Specialists, and acts as a bridge point between the range of a sniper and the damage of a SADAR, while still being worse than both, making it situational and hopefully promote better FOB's in general.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): For starters it would have to be assembled, like the Sentry, and then would need to be loaded with mortar shells, like the SADAR, it would then be operated by the Specialist, which would zoom them out as if they were using the Sniper's scope, but a slightly shorter range, the mortar itself would utilize a minimum range safety measure, like how the GL doesn't fire too close to the user, you could load the Mortar with Bunker Buster shells, White Phosphorous shells, or plain 'ol Explosive Shells, these would all work the same way as the SADAR's ammunition, but would be a slower projectile, acting like the OB in that it cannot be fired indoors, as a Mortar works by firing the shell into the air (durr). Possibly slightly nerf SADAR damage, and have the Mortar Shells do the original SADAR damage, making it a much scarier weapon to slow xenos, or xenos gathering in groups to prepare an attack.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): No clue, I'm not smart.

Hmmmm, you wanna give a sniper with explosive rounds to a spec...

On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

+1, there's currently not much variety in spec gear, I would love to see new stuff being added.

I would like an extra ranged option but I'm not sure Mortar is the answer for Specs. Generally a mortar is operated by a three man team. One Loading, One Aiming, One Spotting. Sounds like an ass ton of work for what would essentially just become a glorified UGL stuck to the ground. I would like to see Combat Engineers have access to Mortars though. Not so much specs.

All the spec needs is a b18 massive buff and sniper load removed because it's an useless snowflake piece of shit.

Shit.. The spec already has some sort of mortar (grenade launcher). However i'm up for the spec to have like a minigun or a machine gun with 300 rounds, quick fire and low damage (lower than pulse rifle)

That weapon that you're describing sounds like the smartgun. It's basically the marine's minigun, has about 350 rounds in total, is quick to fire and does SMG damage.

Smartgun needs to be reloaded from time to time, it's slower than a minigun and it's damage is higher than the pulse rifle. Don't know what youre talking about.

I'm describing a mid-range weapon with 300 rounds per magazine that fires faster than burstfire with the single fire accuracy with smg damage, in other words, a suppresive fire weapon

Smartgun does less damage than the pulse rifle, you silly man, it also has bad AP values.

While it would be a good idea to buff B18, the other options are effective, it just depends on the person operating it.
