Larva eating organs

Post by Szunti » 16 Dec 2016, 09:26

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Infected hosts should have increasing damage to organs as the larva feeds on them.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Currently the most terrifying thing for a xeno is an infected host. Some classes are mostly defenseless.
At the same time they don't need any treatment from medics. If they had some kind of increasing damage medics could know vaguely how far is the progress.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Larva should eat a bit from everything, leaving enough for the host to live until bursting. If an organ is already damaged too much, they would probably skip it. It could cause damage to internal organs, minor brute in chest etc. carefully distributed to not kill the host. This would make infected marines weaker forcing them to play ill instead of rambo. Internal organ damage is easily treated by peridaxon, so I don't think this would effect doctors too much.

Problem with this is that the vast number of infected are already injured and with this they are likely to die before even bursting.

Even if it's carefully distributed to not kill the host I'm fairly certain the toxin damage would do from the damaged organs.

Also ruins my 'Rejuvination Kit' idea, which gives you a slight chance of surviving a chestburst.

When I am a sentinel, most of them can still stand up and fight they are not even slowed down. The others, who can't stand usually die anyway. I admit I don't really know what organ damage do precisely. Can't it be kept at a level where close to the end they cause dizziness, slow you down, but doesn't kill you? Alternatively larva could also produce chemicals like small amounts of inaprovaline/dylovene to keep you alive. I think parasites do something similar in real life.

-1 . If you want the host to stand still and unable to escape, put them in pain crit.

You mean dosing someone with a bunch of tricord and dylovene while they're at full health?

Most parasites have evolved to eat the non-essential parts of thier hosts because the ones that go first for the vitals die when the host drops dead and fail to mature.

I like the idea of more immersion, because the larva actually needs to eat something inside you.

But this would literally destroy your chances from escaping while nested, tons of marines that are hugged most of the time have some kind of damage, more of it is shit

If you can't fight against a nested host being a SENTINEL, you must get more robust, i'm not even kidding. As sentinel you just need to corner spit and he won't escape

On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

I agree, if there is a sentinel watching, you have no chance to get out of the nest on your own. The only way to escape is when your mates come. But what happens now is that xenos are forced to kill you when marines are close to the hive, because if they nest you and you escape, you will be too strong.

On the other hand watching hosts is the most boring thing in the entire game in my opinion and noone wants to guard hosts. Which means the couple people who still do it and would watch their share are forced to do it for the whole round and skip the fun part. Of course even they will be fed up and won't play sentinel again next round. Being nested is not really fun for anyone. Marines at least can get out sometimes, plan an escape with other marines or just cry on the radio. Sentinels are mostly alone, left behind by the team but the worst thing is that they expected to do it for the whole round unlike marines who spend only a small part of their round in the nest. So in my opinion marines can only escape now because this whole nesting concept is so bad there isn't a single player who wants to guard hosts. This suggestion doesn't try to address this problem though.

Not a bad idea. We can have it destroy the Heart+Liver on burst.

I actually like the idea, but would rather not it BREAKS the heart. It'd be pretty neat to re-arrenge and add all the person's organs, threating him before defibrilating the body to ressurect him (The salt if he SSD / Don't come back).
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Medics would need better medical tools for corpses for your idea Sarah, because as it stands you can only use trauma packs to get your patients under that 100 damage mark, and even then you'll have seconds to treat any life-threatening damage, that's if they ACCEPT the defib, as you mentioned.
