Helmet/Armour Flashlight
Suggestion Title: Its up there. ^^^^^^
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): It's also up there. ^^^^^^
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): You can free a pocket by mounting a flashlight on your helmet or armour. With the death of the PDA, we need a replacement flashlight that we can put in an unimportant area.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Uh. You mount it on your helmet and/or armour...

RE: Helmet/Armour Flashlight
From what it sounds like, you use a shotgun. Flashlights are attachable now to the SMG, and they've always been attachable to the M41A Pulse Rifle. Just screwdriver it, slide that badboy on your weapon, and voila... Failing that you can also attach it to your armor slot.
However, I do like the idea of a helmet flashlight with some nice sprite-age.

RE: Helmet/Armour Flashlight
I love the idea of a mounted flashlight. Usually I mount mine to my rifle, but if I lose that then I don't have any other form of light. It'd be super useful if you could mount your flashlight on your armor vest, or your helmet. Preferably vest, because, y'know, you're gonna lose your helmet. I believe SecretStamos even had sprites for the shoulder lamps, or sprites for vests that have shoulder lamps attached to them, I can't remember.

Flashlights, can be attached, to nearly any marine weapon...
I mean, after the conversion, they will be able to be attached to ANY marine weapon (even pistols, for a poopy level of illumination)

Or, here's an idea, BRING A FLARE WITH YOU.

Flares are more for, "Hey, there's a large patch of darkness I don't want to go into, better illuminate it from a distance so I can see better" situations. For example, when you're manning a mounted gun and want to see farther in front of you.

RE: Helmet/Armour Flashlight
I feel like the inability for marines to hold everything is a necessary aspect of the tension between human and alien.
For example
Oh you dropped your gun with the flashlight. "I can't see shit in here." Checks belt, nothing. Checks suit, YES a flare. Oh shit what is that!? AGHGHHGHH ALIEN!!

No matter what, I always have two flares in my armor pockets. Very few times have I lost my gun (and lived to really miss the light) but those few times I have, I'd pop a flare and stick that shit to my armor. Because space magic.

I actually agree with you there, as cool as shoulder-mounted lights would be.mdom wrote: I feel like the inability for marines to hold everything is a necessary aspect of the tension between human and alien.

Light visibility issues are part of the series. All of the Aliens movies are extremely dark and atmospheric. Xenomorphs wouldn't nearly be as scary if they were fought in a well-lit open field.

I dislike this idea. Developers and spriters went underwork to develop an attachable to the guns.
Doing this would make their job waste of time.

Not entirely. The issue is that you can drop your gun very easily to a surprise attack from a facehugger (it's never aliens. ever), and then lose sight of most of your surroundings.UnknownMurder wrote: I dislike this idea. Developers and spriters went underwork to develop an attachable to the guns.

The arguments regarding atmosphere are correct, I suppose, but I rarely if ever find aliens turning off their night vision to make sure they lurk in the shadows. I'd think this'd be a practical and nice feature for gameplay, so it could be the same buff as a PDA flashlight (+ 2 light tiles)?

I don't think were going to do this. Again, darkness is the marines natural enemy in the aliens universe, to the point, where we work on making it DARKER on the Nostromo.

RE: Helmet/Armour Flashlight
I barely even use the attachable Flashlights. Have to use a Flashlight+flare/otherflahslight combo in my pockets or Exosuit slot. And that is obviously because I either can't get a screwdriver because people tend to steal the one from prep room. Or I just don't want to loose my Illumination due to dropping my Gun. Honestly the ability to attach flahslights to guns is nice when you can use darkness well. But in a top down two D spess man game it's not working. In fact I end up getting frustrated instead of feeling the tension and suspense. If we had limited cones of vision and stuff that'd work better. But we don't.

RE: Helmet/Armour Flashlight
Again, why we need a screwdriver to attach the flashlights? Can't we just insert one there without having to find a screwdriver, that could have been stolen or something else, besides, helmet and armor flashlights are the ones used on the movie.
Other thing that jimmy my rustles is that a group of marines with flashlights can light a whole area as the engine was properly updated with all lights fixed.
My suggestion is:
Armors and helmets can have the flashlights attached just as weapons can.
Flashlight gets nerfed to go to less tiles, maybe two or three.

This, and maybe remove the ability to attach your light to your gun. Flares and shoulder lamps for light, baby.LordLoko wrote: Again, why we need a screwdriver to attach the flashlights? This won't be done this iteration, possibly the next one.
