Replace Metarush Rule

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Replace the metarush rule with something that mechanically makes going across the river impossible.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Removes a rule that often becomes a point of controversy, replacing it with a mechanic that prevents it. Allows marines who are especially pro-active in their planetside duties, deploying, etc. to be rewarded for it (earlier access to the river).

Continues to give aliens metarush protection but doesn't disallow marines to chase the incredibly obvious xeno pulling away your buddy right infront of you because you dont want to be bombed, called out in OOC by a staff member, or banned for a metarush.

Gives more options for squad objectives and a new task/challenge for engineers.

Gives more of a reason why the marines should secure the colony before pissing around at the river (the river is not accessible).

Adds a more flushed out colony with less jungle fluff on either side.

Reduce staff intervention for a rather hardline rule so they can bother with other stuff.


Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Move the water treatment plant to the south of the river (why was it north anyways?), expand it, and give it machines that will help to "fix" the river. Have these machines be fixed similarly to geothermal generators but never break, and have them not be effected by acid or crusher charges. After the machine is fixed, have it take 5 minutes to start, and after the 5 minutes are up the river is safe to cross. (Time limit up to dev discretion, 5 minutes is a random number)

Change the river to deal 10 or so toxin damage per tile moved before the water treatment is set up. This will also discourage xenos dragging tallhosts through the river while infected before the marines begin attacking them because they'll be put into crit from it. It will not effect xenos (or monkeys if possible)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding, mapping, spriting, wiki changes. The whole package.

Why, a new mechanic that would allow me to quickly cheese the marines and pull them in the water?! Wonderful!

On another note, still relatively like the idea. Although, I'd rather have LV624 less river-centric.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Then the marine will die of toxin damage and will not lose their head like normal. Also, if a marine's getting captured near the river and the xeno doesn't get assblasted, he prolly alone and rambo'ing.

To counter this though, it removes the concrete 45 minute things. If the marines are more prepared than normal, they can cross faster. The downside is that the xenos now have another defense.

Its a good idea, but what prevents a squad from rushing the Water Treatment plant?

Well, nothing. The idea was to have it be A. hard to get into, and B. take a little while to set up, then have a timer even after that

+1, I really do dislike meta-rushing marines and how they don't get punished because it's impossible for the admins to punish the 8 marines that crossed and settled TB in 10 minutes from landing. Even then people escape with it
