Hugged Notification
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Add a notification to marines, a NOTICEABLE one, that lets them know a poor sod has a Facehugger on his/her/its face.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Allows marines to actually know how's been face-hugged with a bit more of an IN YOUR FACE approach.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
When a marine is hugged, and they sputter or gasp or whatever that sound is they make, a small, blinking red/purple/rainbow whatever HUD icon will appear on them, NOTIFYING you they've been hugged.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Coding, and I assume a little spriting.

Re: Hugged Notification
Wouldn't you know you have been hugged by the fact you have been knocked unconscious?

I thought it was obvious what I mean...I mean for OTHER marines to know. I've seen too many occasions where marines will trample over others and have no idea they've been hugged.Snypehunter007 wrote:Wouldn't you know you have been hugged by the fact you have been knocked unconscious?

Re: Hugged Notification
Do you mean when you "right-click" examine them? Because right now it just lists a facehugger as a mask.CrimsonAerospace wrote:I thought it was obvious what I mean...I mean for OTHER marines to know. Let me rephrase...Snypehunter007 wrote:Do you mean when you "right-click" examine them? Because right now it just lists a facehugger as a mask.
WHEN YOU ARE HUGGED -
A slow-blinking, square icon will appear over your head, or somewhere near you, that is meant to indicate to a player from an OOC standpoint that HEY, DUDES GOT A HUGGER.
It's meant to I guess, act like a normal, well trained Marines instincts for "Oh shit another marine is down with a fucking alien on his face" instead of marines marching over them with little to no idea what's going on. It's hard in combat to notice some things, hell I'VE accidentally not noticed people get hugged.

Re: Hugged Notification
Alright this is much more clear. Its an interesting prospect but I don't know how I feel about it being an OOC thing though, so. I will see what other responses are for now.CrimsonAerospace wrote:Let me rephrase...

Neutral leaning towards +1 for now.

It's meant to be OOC/IC. Like, OOC, you see the HUD Icon, and you're like "Oh, he's hugged."Snypehunter007 wrote:Alright this is much more clear. Its an interesting prospect but I don't know how I feel about it being an OOC thing though, so. I will see what other responses are for now.

In IC, of course you would not see it, but your common fucking sense alerts you to the fact that there is a strange tan alien strangling your teammate to death and you should seriously focus on that.
Hope that help clears it up even more.

Re: Hugged Notification
I support this idea, but I'd rather have an IC way such as some kind of message instead of a hud icon

Re: Hugged Notification
Its a huge sprite that covers their entire face.
We shouldn't be asking the dev team to code things in to make it easier for people who can't see, because people who can see don't have a problem with looking at the persons face and seeing its completely covered by a face hugger.

Re: Hugged Notification
The problem is Rain, in combat, logs move fast as hell from all the "X fires Y!" and "X bullet hits Y." and so on and so forth, I toyed with that as an idea too but it wouldn't work for combat situations. I honestly think the only way to solve it is some sort of half OOC/IC middle ground for telling marines someone is hugged.Rain7x wrote:I support this idea, but I'd rather have an IC way such as some kind of message instead of a hud icon

Re: Hugged Notification
-1, as seen in alien even when hugged the individual is unsure about what happened, you need to trust your teammates and get checked out if they say to, that and if the hugger changes are eventually fully implemented this will become irrelevant

You have obviously not read this..
The notification is to alert marines that you've been hugged. I'm pretty sure that when you see teammates helmet get ripped off and a giant red crab face-humping them, you're GOING TO KNOW somethings wrong.

Re: Hugged Notification
I read it, hard to get what you mean with so many grammar errors, but what I said still stands, marines are just encountering the xenos, and they don't have the technology to easily detect if you are hugged and what not, you are going to need to use a medical scanner to know that.CrimsonAerospace wrote:You have obviously not read this..

Adding any flashing notifications is silly

Alright, I can see I messed up when I wrote this and either people don't get what I'm trying to make or can't work it out on their own.
I posted this late at night because fuck it, why not, and it was before I every heard about the hugger combat updates.
Can someone lock this? I suppose that depending on how the Hugger combat update goes we're not going to need something like this anyways. Thank you for the feedback however, everyone.
