Change PO's rank from Ensign (ENS) to Warrant Officer (WO)

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Currently the pilot officer is an Ensign. I suggest we change the rank to "Warrant officer", the prefix before the name would be "WO".
For those who don't know, Warrant officer is a rank in the US for special military personell that are technical specialists in certain area, one example is a nuclear engine specialist in the navy. WOs are above enlisted (Sergeant, private, corporal) but are below officers (Ensign, Liuetenant, Commander).

The reason i suggest changing the PO to be a WO is because he's a pilot, probably he flights around extremly dangerous areas and need some good technical skills and experience, Ensigns are ranks used for people that just came out from the academy and are usually on their first asignment, it makes more sense to have a more experienced Warrant Officer then a new Ensign in charge of the rasputin.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
1)Makes sense in lore: This is what I explained above, WOs are more experienced and technical, they should be in charge of flying the ship of the mission, basically it's the future of the mission on their hands, not something that should be given to lowly Ensigns.

2)Differentiate between the RO and the PO: The RO is an Ensign, it's a job that makes sense him begin an Ensign, the PO is ALSO an Ensign. Yes, it's obviously possible of people from different jobs to have the same rank, but sometimes is confusing when you see "ENS" and you confuse the PO with the RO.

The rank of the PO would be changed to "Warrant Officer" in the wiki and in-game would be shown as "WO"

Warrant officers are really rare now, and you almost exclusively have to be an officer at the start to fly aircraft...

Not saying it's a huge deal, but the multi-use of the acronym would be present. In any case this suggestion is a very low priority quality-of-life kinda thing.

+1 I would like to see this new rank added because the RO is already an ENS and some diversity would be cool.

Also I don't think the acronym is a problem. As LordLoko said, ranks are rarely used to address people and the PO would still be called a PO for the most part.

A little late to the game here, but I agree with this suggestion. I have also read that our current Navy has preliminary training programs that allow Chief Warrant Officers to become Pilots, so it makes sense logically. The only issue is now the Requisition officer would supersede the pilot in rank.

I also think the ranks for the Sulaco crew should be reorganized. I figure that everyone apart from the MPs, Marines, and civilians are Navy personnel, so here's how I think it would go:

1. Commander (CDR) - Commanding Officer
2. Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) - Executive Officer
3. Lieutenant (LT) - Bridge Officer
4. Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) - Chief Engineer
5. Ensign (ENS) - Requisitions Officer
6. Warrant Officer (WO) - Pilot Officer
7. Petty Officer (PO) - Maintenance Tech/Cargo Tech

I also think it's weird that the Chief Medical Officer would only be a civilian, but then again I don't know much about the military of the future.

It's actually weird that the medical personal is only civilian. They should be military IMO, altough that may creat some problems since field hospital medics are usually officers (since begin an officer require a high education diploma), so technically they would need be LTJG or ENS and the CMO a LCDR.

A suggestion about other ranks could be made separatly (my dream is porting the new baystation military rank system)

Also, Petty Officer (PO) is a rank that usually go from three to one (PO3,PO2,PO3) and is the navy equivalent of a "Sergeant". It would be strange to have both Petty Officer and Sergeant as ranks. Leave it as Sergeant.

Since the ship is kind of small we can assume that the Colonial Marines work indepedently from the spess navy (isn't kind of the lore of the CM?)

It doesn't make sense to only have navy ranks for the officers and not the NCOs on the ship. CTs and MTs are not marines, so why would they go by sergeant if they're sailors? They would be petty Officers.

We are not normal military, we're !!!SPESS!!! military. In aliens lore, it seems that the USCM control their own ships idepedently from the Space Navy. Look at a marine-centric aliens comic or just look at the movie, the ships just have marines, the support staff is marines.

And Ensign is a O-1 rank of the Colonial Marines according to apop, hell, currently we have naval ranks (Commander, Lieutenant Commander, Ensign), Army/Marine ranks (Private, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant) and even US Airforce ranks (Technical Sergeant).

Technically a Warrant Officer is an officer, just isn't comissioned

Not all Pilots are WARRANT OFFICERS... Warrant Officers do some special warfare job... most of the Pilot for the airspace are mostly likely Officers if you have met them. I've never seen a Warrant Officer in my life and it's rare.
