Higher Chance for marine assistance on first distress beacon
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Basically, if the marines call out for help, the first time it should be a high chance for a marine friendly ERT, like Dutche's, mercs, or WY PMCs. There are too many damn XRTs.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This'll give the marines the help they need, and stop so many steamrolls that xenos have on the sulaco, giving the marines one last chance and putting xenos up to the test, mixing up the gameplay.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
The first beacon should have a high chance for friendly ERT, and have it decrease every time a beacon is called, so marines can't spam it. Say by the third beacon, xrt and bears should be a high chance, so they can still call it, but then the xenos get potential help.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Just make the percentages higher for mercs, dutches, and PMCs in the start, then have it decrease and have bears and XRT increase.

They can't call it unless certain things happen. Its perfectly fine the way it is IMO because ert shouldn't just be a win. There should be a risk to calling out. Honestly there should be more hostile ERTs like pirates who come aboard. Steal shit. Blow shit up and then kidnap people before retreating.

I agree, in the event the Marines do overcome these odds, their victories actually become more interesting and inspiring as a story.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Kinda like when you run out of fuel in FTL and have to turn your distress beacon on. It's a box of chocolates!Kneez wrote:There should be a risk to calling out. Honestly, I'd rather just remove ERTs altogether, since they are nothing but a waste of time or trouble.

You'd think they'd have a back up fuel tank like Planet Express ship.elantzb wrote:Kinda like when you run out of fuel in FTL and have to turn your distress beacon on. It's a box of chocolates!

I kinda support this, but mostly because I find XRT to be mind mindbogglingly asinine. (I'd like it to be replaced with some other hostile/neutral ERT)
Even the positive ERT's usually provide little impact unless the xenos came on board seriously unprepared, so no real issues with this.

"Memories can be vile. Repulsive little brutes, like children I suppose. But can we live without them? Memories are what our reason is based upon. If we can't face them, we deny reason itself! Although, why not? We aren't contractually tied down to rationality. There is no sanity clause. So when you find yourself locked down in an unpleasant train of thought, heading for the places in your past where the screaming is unbearable, remember: There's always madness. You can just step outside and close the door, and all those dreadful things that happened, you can lock them away. Madness... is an emergency exit."

That too. How'd the xenomorphs find that pod in the first place? Lets just remove XRTs entirely.darkwahn wrote:I kinda support this, but mostly because I find XRT to be mind mindbogglingly asinine. (I'd like it to be replaced with some other hostile/neutral ERT)

They got on another USS ship somehow and they were going to respond and help but the xenos killed everyone. Remember OH GOD THEY'RE IN THE VENTS~%*\+! connection lostCrab_Spider wrote:That too. How'd the xenomorphs find that pod in the first place? Lets just remove XRTs entirely.
thingy but eh I hate XRT cause it doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather them be space pirates with varying level of gear strength tbh

Re: Higher Chance for marine assistance on first distress beacon
ERT is pretty unrealistic in alien lore, since space travel is rather slow. Unless Sulaco is right next to an space station or an big enough enough vessel that can send non-FTL capable boarding pods within minutes. Heck even in the movies you had to wait 50 years to someone notice your distress beacon, and even sending help to Hadley's Hope took almost an month for help to arrive and this was in region of space that isn't unknown territory.

ERT is preety gambling right now, and its hard to get a good ERT to land near the marines, to the point where people have despite all the right and ability to do so, never tried to call it, and didin't even allow anyone else to do so

Re: Higher Chance for marine assistance on first distress beacon
If ERTs are not going to be helpful, they should just be removed. Why risk a coin toss on if you get a few reinforcements or some more Aliens/Idiots with guns who want to kill you.
Its like putting up a drink fountain. Except when you turn if on you have a 50% chance of getting some really good water, or a 50% chance of a giant rubber fist shooting out and smashing you in the face. Then you wonder why no one is using the fountain.

Re: Higher Chance for marine assistance on first distress beacon
The ERT is not strictly meant to help marines, and it is randomized for that reason. Denied.
