More Marine Defense Items
Currently tables, machine guns, and sometimes shield generators are the only really effective defensive items employed by Marines, however the tables are nice and all but aren't all that that great in adding immersion when you see two dozen of them in the Hanger.
I personally think it would make more sense to add items like sandbags and maybe some sort of fencing equipment for Engineers. These items would take a while to be deployed like the machine-gun and overall would add immersion.

I'd suggest putting this in the correct format my friend. Otherwise, it may very well get looked over.

It'd be pretty nice if marines got concertina wire that aliens could get tangled up and damaged on.

RE: More Marine Defense Items
Perhaps we could use this thread as a series of ideas for new marine defensive tools. I suggest putting up some sort of sentry item. Something that can cover a hallway for a limited amount of time. What is brought to mind are the automated turrets from Aliens. I don't want to make them too strong though, maybe just have them shoot in uncoordinated patterns down the hall. The rate of fire, damage, and ammo would all be variables that could be manipulated for balancing.
It seems like sandbags would be out of place in space.RitzBit wrote: Currently tables, machine guns, and sometimes shield generators are the only really effective defensive items employed by Marines, however the tables are nice and all but aren't all that that great in adding immersion when you see two dozen of them in the Hanger.

Sandbags would feel a little bit out of place in space. However, things like barbed wire or other fencing materials that could possibly tangle and damage aliens, all while being able to be shot through like a wooden barricade would be of great help to the Marines.
Mines would also be a wonderful addition, since, you know... FOB's are always set up either before or right after first contact.
However, if fencing materials are added on, perhaps they should be a Standard's deal? Setting up a fence isn't exactly rocket science, and like basic first aid, all military personell SHOULD know how to do it. The way I see it, the Standard marine is a pack mule. They carry the ammunition or other supplies that the squad needs, as well as provide combat support.

How about we put in the materials to make a proximity mine in the engineers area. That way they will be the only one responsible for blowing off their fellow marine's legs.

Actually, I've been thinking about the options of proximity mines, especially since, grenades can be fitted with a proximity trigger.

Closed. Marines don't need any more defensive items, they've got mines and the ability to produce shit-tons of grenades.
