Snowstorms in ice colony.

Post by xeno366 » 08 Apr 2017, 10:02

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): i got this idea from lavaland ash storms

After some time (maybe 30-60 minutes) theres a snowstorm its so cold that even space heaters cant make you warm and when this happens you get a message then you need to find a shelter.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

For example xenos and marines are all around the map cant find each other but when the storm comes they will need to enter a building and then they will find each other.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

For example 2 teams are lost for a long time the snowstorm comes and makes everyone go into a building and then 2 teams will maybe meet each other (but if you stay outside you freeze and become an ice cube) <== optional

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

codin and little bit of spriting
im robust (not really)

Make it like Lavaland's storms and its gucchi.

It will finally convince people not to play when Ice Colony is on and Devs will finally realize is bad and either fix it or discontinue it.

A +1 just to make people not want to play Ice, since any decent barricades in LZ1 would be steam rolled by a snow storm.

Is there anything else you like about it or no?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Well its atmosphere, since this IS an Ice Planet, and the only known Atmospherics system setup on the Colony is within buildings.

So you'd assume there'd be a lot more Snow / Hail storms, because the Colony isn't exactly terraformed or anything.

As an equivalent to the fog on LV. I propose that it basically doesn't allow either side to move through the storm without a lot of effort or damage. If it comes occasionally, it will force marines and xenos to navigate only underground, and therefore encourage its use.

Interesting Idea. If this could be properly achieved, I believe It would potentially profit both Marines and Xenomorphs. Encouraging the use of the underground facilities will at the same time afford a more Interesting and perhaps, a more immersive and exotic gameplay. +1

The Underground is completely one sided against the Marines, though.

At least on LV, you can use pickaxes to cut a path past the pre-built tunnels that are boiler heaven.

Almost the ENTIRE UNDERGROUND IS MADE OUT OF R-WALLS! And even if it was made out of NORMAL walls, the new Engineering update made normal walls just as shitty to take down as R-walls, if not more, since you waste more welder fluid taking down normal walls than you do of r-walls.

So your only way through the Underground is C4's (rare and precious), or time consuming de-construction (bad due to favoring Xeno's who will use that time to evolve). So your FORCED into COMPLETELY XENO SIDED HALLWAYS just to do shit all. If the xenos planned ahead and have boilers and crushers, MAYBE one good Ravager, then there isn't anyway for marines to do any significant damage except if every Spec went SADAR + Cargo is dropping SADAR ammo like mad.

Its not immersive or exotic gameplay, its simply a unfun xeno stomp, made even worse if Xeno's target tcomms before hand.

I disagree, I believe the underground favors marines actually in the late game, as opposed to xenos early game, long straight hallways of firing lines is a marines wet dream, weld the vents, block the tiny maintenance tunnels with false walls, only way in are straight hallways, literally the reason Nexus is so good to defend at.

Nexus Defences are only good because of tables blocking boiler shots and the fact that the hallway is long in both width AND height.

The Underground is a series of 3 tile height / width hallways with maintenance tunnels all around that are 2 tile height / width. They are literally a nightmare because at best you can have 3 marines firing at the same time, which won't do enough damage to a Crusher before it stomps and pulls you away and/or stomps right when a boiler bomb lands in the middle of your squad. Manuvering is also impossible due to how scrunched up everything is; if the Underground hallways were as open as the North and South Nexus hallways were, then id agree with you, but the hallways in Underground Nexus is more like West Nexus hallway except with r-walls everywhere instead of mostly normal walls.

This is likewise where bramb began saying he lives in albania. They additionally continued pinging me with the albanian banner. They called me female. They called me gay. They said I have down disorder. They called me different names too. Also, bramb said he lives in albania when he professes to live in The Netherlands too. Lying again.

The hallways provide little space to evade, if you're pushing with a large force, the outcome is dependent on choices made and how well they can adapt to the strategies of the opposition. Just because whatever terrain supports the playstyle of a given player does not mean it's all around terrible, if that's the case, fucking adapt to it or find a way around the problem. Every caste has something that makes them an overwhelming force, and force transfers energy. Energy can be absorbed or divided with proper positioning or material. I've been underground numerous times as a Marine, and the many ways Marines lose ground is by securing a position or splitting off. I've been met up with Crushers before underground, and the only advantage they'll get is a narrow long hallway. Boilers are even more worthless in those hallways, and the few times I've gone up with them, ended with them being killed or almost being killed. The only caste I've yet to succeed in killing or almost killing underground is a Praetorian.

Marines fuck up underground mostly because of their own stupidity and overconfidence.
