Guide Subforum

Suggestion Title: Guide Subforum

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): a subforum would be added to the the CM General Discussion forums

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): this would make it easier for people to learn and train newbies and so on

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): abit ago while checking the forums i saw someone making suggestions for a sort of guide to how to be a proper medic when they had to be linked to the already existing relevant pages, we actually DO have some handy guides on how to do stuff written by players of the community both past and present but they're WAY IN THE BACK in the sections of the forums no one ever looks at because they havent been posted in for ages (and to be fair alot of these things dont NEED constant posts, guides for example, most of the game doesn't change drastically so what worked last week will often work today).

you can always just use search but alot of the players who need the help may not know the specific things to search for or they may be a little on the slow end, they may even assume the guides simply do not exist, ergo we should try to make their tasks easier if we can.

essentially we would make a new subforum under general chat, and all the guides we've written (for example, "M37, Field Medicine, and YOU!") would be moved there, making them easier to find and if anyone writes NEW guides covering topics not already discussed or which should be brought up, as well as information tidbits specific to this server (for example, i had to be told by an admin that surgery here for some procedures is changed, playing the part of a medical trainee and asking others on how to perform these procedures got me SCREAMED AND BITCHED AT for not knowing how to do my job, ergo discouraging from trying to learn on the go, instead of admins needing to respond to relevant ahelps ALL the time, the information would exist here on the forums) would also be placed in this new section of the forums.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): this does not represent a change to SS13 itself or your version of the baystation code but constitutes an addition to the forums and would only be as difficult as it is to move forum posts and add subforums, while this would represent a temporary inconvenience (having to look through and move all these old posts) it would be helpful in the LONG term both to new members of your community (especially those new to SS13 itself) as well as to current members who need to look up materials from time to time.

I would prefer to see guides being posted on our wiki. Our Wikia is, for all intents and purposes, eternal. Forums can be fickle and have a chance of being wiped. Wikis are made for instruction, data, and guides, whereas forums are more for discussion. Not that the two aren't interchangeable, but someone looking for a guide will likely go to the wiki, so realistically it should go there.

I'll come up with a way to make it easy for people to post guides, including links and instructions. For example, it's usually better for guides to be posted in a user's blog page on the wiki as opposed to something like sscolonialmarines.wikia.com/my_guide. Plus, blog pages can only be edited by the creator.

I would be in favor of a subforum. I think it would be better used than the wiki (this because I honestly don't have a clue with wiki-editing, and I assume the forum gets more traffic than the wiki). Either would work for me, though.

Wikia is pretty user-friendly. It's as simple as a word processor, or a forum:

I conceeded and made a Guides subforum. If people aren't comfortable with the wiki they don't need to be forced to share their ideas there.

Link me any guides that need to be moved and I'll move 'em over there.
