Summary: Re-add the four forward sentry guns to both dropships.

Benefits: The cockpit of the Dropship has turned from the most safe area of the ship into the most vulnerable area. No other area of the ship is as vulnerable to aliens as the cockpit, which can utterly shut down any evacuation attempt when a Queen walks into the cockpit and disables it.

Eh, -1. I don't really like the sentries, it makes them feel less like a transport and more of a gunship.

I think i'd rather them just make the cockpit windows stronger, like the windows in the ship.

I think it'd make sense, seeing as there are no manual gunners or such things implemented.

It'd also stop the cheese I saw last round of the Queen rushing the shuttle console and locking it with nearly 2 squads onboard, wounded and command being unable to evacuate them.

+1, I see Queens often break into the cockpit first thing in, then lock the console, then xenos take their time to murder everyone inside the dropship

+1 because Marines not having any Assault Transports is painful when the Xenos can casually prance in front of the Dropship with no repurcusions.

One round I saw the Marines had set up a M56D as a impromptu Door gun which was the only defense the entire craft had.

I'm a bit on the fence about the idea of putting guns back on the ship.

Sure, they were useful for suppression and protecting the front of the dropship.. Sometimes... But most of the time they just end up either accidentally killing survivors or breaking the cockpit windows.

most of the time, the dropship is NEVER in a position where the guns would be of any use, more often than not just facing a wall. And of course, xenos can still break in from the sides and rear with little issue, so what is the point of frontal sentries if there is nothing to protect the rear?

I'd like something to provide some self-defense for the dropships, but it would have to be done in a way that would be useful, not just give the illusion of safety.

Its more or less because the shutters are currently bugged so xenos still get through using the cockpit reeee

Crushers can still easily break down shutters.

Sentry Guns at least give pause to most xenos and keep the cockpit secure for the most part.

Even if it was the original production model it still would have its main weapon pods.

Its an armed transport not a civilian one.

Edit: Hell if we were to use the Aliens-era one it would HAVE to be at least a UD-4C variant which had the gattling gun and secondary weapon bays.

sounds cool. if theyre judged too strong, you could nerf their ammo capacity or hp/acid resistance or all sorts of balancing factors

they should get broken off when the dropship rams the almayer though

They were balanced on the old Rasputin because they were easily breakable by actually INVADING the Shuttle, not just cheesing it by going into the cockpit with no resistance. You had to go through swarms of Marines to get to the cockpit, which is how it SHOULD be, as the cockpit is THE MOST VALUABLE AREA of the entire dropship, considering it dictates whether or not you can evacuate.

Since your quite new to the forums and possibly the game, welcome. I can assure you that the sentries are very balance and aliens usually destroy them one by one when it is actually safe to board and hijack.

If having 4 forward guns is too much, what about two forward and then one each on the side doors. Not enough to hold off everything but it gives marines some covering fire going in and out, and give the PO a power switch to them in case of survivors or some other good reason to shut them off?

Yeah. Queen going to console and locking ship with ~10-15 marines inside is not good, considering it's IMPOSSIBLE to get inside cockpit and unlock it after that.
