Ammo box

Post by Butters » 06 May 2017, 07:35

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Adding an ammo box that can only carry the recently added bullets / rounds that you can now remove from magazines.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

It would add to the whole ammo management mechanic and would reduce the boat loads of belts that are brought down to FOBs. (When cargo crew is active)

It could be the beginning to a possible support role that either standards can take up, or a new class of marines. ( I would go into details, but that should be in a separate thread.)

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

This suggestion is a sort of extension to a suggestion someone made (http://colonial-marines.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=5272) last year. This suggestion I am basing on the recently added feature that you can now remove bullets from magazines.

This would be an ammo box looking item that would only allow the stacks of 8 (or less) bullets to be put in them, that you get from clicking on a magazine.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

This item would be similar to a magazine with a few changes to it.

It’s size would be large enough that you can’t put it into backpacks, but you can put it into crates and you can hold it in hand. In crates I would imagine it would take up the same space as a bag for example. You also can’t attach it to any wearable items, and can’t wear it anywhere on your body.

It would hold about 350-400 rounds, but it would hold it in a manner like a magazine holds the ammo, meaning it wouldn’t “physically” have the stacks of rounds in them, like when a first aid kit holds it’s contents. This way you would shift click it to see how many rounds it still holds. I suggest this because with the above linked suggestion, an issue that was mentioned is that it would cause lag when it was deleted by melting, or getting devoured. This way, this item would not contain a large amount of items inside it. It would only have the information about how many rounds are still in it.

I suggest 350-400 rounds because currently if you fill a backpack full of SMG or rifle magazines, than the bag effectively holds 280 rifle rounds or 336 SMG bullets. This would be an incentive to use these boxes instead of belts or bags. There could also be separate boxes for rifle rounds and SMG bullets where the former can hold maybe 300-350 rounds and the latter could hold 400 bullets.

Contrary to what was said in the above linked suggestion, I would be against the mechanic where magazines could be filled by clicking them on the ammo box. My reason for that is, I think that could cause OP situations, where a marine is standing next to the box. He quickly unloads the magazine refills it than loads it into the weapon again than keeps firing.

These ammo boxes could be vended in prep rooms and / or cargo and more could be ordered by requisitions.

Seems like a good idea to me. Medics, along with healing the marines, could help manage these ammo boxes.
Andrew Fern, a marine who manages to be chill in every fucking situation, even if he sucks at his job.

Been suggested before. Snype, it is time you crush the dreams of another weakling.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Well, if that does happen I wanted to add that this would probably need to be able to stocked in marine vendors in prep or cargo, since noone in their right mind would bother filling these boxes up, when you can only hold 8 rounds in hand.

I +1 this, just because I want cargo to have ready access to this. Way less tedious and more rp friendly than looting marine preps for spare mags.

Resupply drop pads should spawn with four unique 'Squad Dispensers' that can be filled with a large amount of bullets and some spare guns. These dispensers can be refilled with a box of bullets that's very cheap to get from cargo.

+1, it'd tidy up req and make it less "Greytide: The Job", and more "Tactical Acquisition of Marine Gear: The Job" (That is to say not stealing everything not nailed down and shipping it).

This will encourage marines to keep/collect their magazines when they have the time, and presents a more realistic system of resupplying marines. When you are supplied ammo, it is usually not loaded into magazines already, but stored loose/in clips inside boxes/cans.

I'd also be in favour of making magazines not automatically drop when you run out of ammo, but having them stay in the gun until you either manually take them out, or combat reload by clicking on the gun with a fresh mag.
