Sqaud Designated Snipers

(Summary)

Every squad has a single designated sniper. Feel free to shit on me if this is a garbage idea. Or build on it. Up to you.

(Benefits)
  • provides marines with a challenging combat role
  • multiple boiler? Multiple snipers.
  • U.S.S. Almayer corridors aren't as one sided anymore.
  • Stealth/reconnaissance role for marines to match Xeno's.
(Details)

The basic idea is that snipers will be able to scout, harass, and report enemy movement. Alternatively, help in defense under siege. generally the sniper dies before they can counter a boiler, and there's not much recon being done with their scope. So providing a role dedicated to information gathering first and foremost, would help with communicating a better picture of the battlefield for command staff, who already have the hardest jobs. Some rounds command staff just don't get the information they need to provide decent instruction. Sniper class could help alleviate that.

(Implementation)

I'm unsure what the sniper's damage numbers are like, but if you feel that too many snipers would break the balance, maybe just adjust the damage? The primary idea behind this role is being an information gatherer and communication with command and SL's first. Supporting combat role second. Sniper's should have a gillie suit that hides you from aliens sight, but only if you aren't moving. not sure how that would work on the ship, or if you can have it disabled while on the ship, but that's my idea. I apologize if this comes off as UNGA DUNGA, MUHREEN BUFF WEN!?


EDIT: For addition emphasis on information gathering, since SL's are the only ones on the ground who commune with command currently, provide a headset that can report their information to command.

Mate, we don't need 4 snipers, 4 smartgunners is enough.

It makes sense for every squad to have a support gunner, but snipers normally aren't employed in such large scales.

-1. As nice as it would be on the marines side to have multiple snipers and smartgunners, having lots of people who can counter boilers will make people want to go boiler less and make the crusher army meta more prevalent than it already is, because you are pretty much making one T3 caste less viable, and as a result, the crusher EVEN MORE viable.

If the goal was to have more marine units to scout, perhaps make the binocs more accessible? Idk

The general feeling I got when people talked about snipers is that they are near useless, and prone to FF marines. So my thought was relegate their task from combat support to reconnaissance, and suddenly it becomes tense hide and seek spy shit. Or maybe I'm just dumb.

Your not dumb. The idea would work if we were fighting other humans. Because of how combat works on CM, small man recon like you are suggesting is suicide due to how easy it is to take down two - three marines as xenos.

Snipers are the default overpowered role in 90% of FPSes out there, baldies are gonna set it to high on their first time joining the server and then they'll give us friendly fire on epic proportions.

Literally Anipers are the worst spec class. If you FF a healthy marine once, their are as good as dead. We don't need 4

FF and usually because of their limitations. Except these limitations are what make snipers easy to deal with and harder to counter as a boiler. They're now in the position where they chip health from crushers and remove them from defensive position.
