Xeno names instead of numbers.

Summary: So, I play a lot of /tg/station, and they have this ghost role where you play as golems and you create golems that other ghosts can join in as. However, these guys don't have numbers to differentiate themselves, they have proper names. There are names in a pool that are chosen at random, mostly names of minerals. I was thinking we could use this for Colonial Marines.

Benefits: It will add more personality to the aliens that they don't really have, and memorizing numbers is a lot harder than remembering names. Also the random numbers after the alien type is just unimmersive.

Details: Since there are always a lot of aliens, the pool of names would be huge. I'm not sure what type of names they would be but definitely alien related. Of course, these names will carry on a whole aliens lifetime, and I don't think random larva that don't have sentience should be given names.

If you know the xeno lore of this server then you know why this is a bad idea. All xeno are part of a hivemind. The hivemind is one entity. In essence all xeno are part of one entity so giving them actual names to individualize themselves is pretty dumb. You could maybe suggest giving the hivemind a name which would make rounds differ more. Possibly giving the Queen a name since she is the center of the hivemind, but giving each alien a name doesn't work with the lore at all.

Golems are different, they are extremely dumb, but they are separate entities. They are fine with having names because they are a separate entity.

Now, the numbering system is a bit confusing at times and sometimes I wish that there was a system that is easier to use. Such as all runner and evolutions from them being in the 200s, sentinels and evolutions being in the 300s, and drones and evolutions being in the 400s, but there is nothing inherently wrong wtih how the numbering functions now.
This is how well the CM community understands the actual military.

First off, no, golems are not extremely dumb, their whole job is to do R&D. Second, just because there's a shared hivemind doesn't mean there can't be any individuality among the aliens.

So let's just ignore what golems are or are not since it differs between servers.

Now, yes there is individuality between the aliens, but they are not individuals. They are all one mind together. Opinions may differ a bit, but they all follow one decision (atleast in theory). So it still isn't a good idea.

These are ruthless killing machines, who has no time to care about names, they are an abomination to the universe with it's sole purpose is to spread it's kind by any means necessary.
