Wiki Suggestion: provide penetration information/newbie guidance for weapons/ammos

Post by misto » 29 May 2017, 18:47

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): hello! im new to game and i cant tell which of these weapons can or cant penetrate marine armor. please add this information!

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): will let me know what is safe to use until i am more confident with how shooting works in this game

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): add some kind of tag or category in the wiki about whether the weapon/ammo can or cant puncture marine armor

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): add some kind of tag or category in the wiki about whether the weapon/ammo can or cant puncture marine armor, or something like that.

i know that some thing are obvious, like ap mags, but other things arent! like buckshot, the wiki does not describe it as armor piercing, as opposed to the slug, but it also says massive damage.

if youre worried about this info being used by griefers, well, the ap mags are sitting right there in the vendor machine, they would already put two and two together

you can even further enhance this weapon advice by listing what alien types may need ap ammo loaded to deal with.

Standard rounds will occasionally be blocked off, but usually will break bone at a certain point. Standard rounds will penetrate based on RNG alone, so yeah.

M41A = low-medium

M37A2 = low-high
M33 = low
M4A2 = low-medium
M44 = medium

I stand neutral for the actual suggestion however. Mostly because of the min-maxing many people will accomplish with such a guide, not to mention griefing incidents (this is a very moot point)
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I am John "Buckshot" Rhodes, the Tactical Snowflake Hunter

Let me tell you which can penetrate

ALL OF THEM

its just a matter of how RNG rolls

(Seriously marine armor is not 100 bullet resistance, even a holdout pistol can go through if you are lucky)

If you are afraid of FFing, either just pick a normal rifle with no AP mags or SMG (dual once you get pretty confident), do not pick shotgun or ap mags until you learn patience and timing properly, use single fire as well, burst is a very situational thing that requires some attachments to be good, and without patience and timing, you will end up killing your fellow marines and SL's even with attachments.
