Bring back our old FPS

Post by Renomaki » 31 May 2017, 15:57

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Recently, the staff decided to boost the FPS of the game for some reason. This update, on paper, should result in a smoother, fluid game, but the result is a game where all movements are jerky, mobs are harder to track and lead, and generally lag is much more noticeable.

SS13 is a game that doesn't need high FPS to be played, all the game's balance was build around it's old FPS, and until it is brought back, I can't really enjoy the game in its current state.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Returning to its old FPS will not only make the game easier for everyone to play again, but also look so much nicer. A lot of animations were also modeled after the old speed, and having little models hopping about in the blink of an eye while doors open slow as molasses is strange and distracting.

The old FPS will allow people more time to react to events in the world around them and keep movements smooth like they used to. No more jerky, sudden movements and difficulties tracking mobs due to the awkward effects 60 FPS has on them.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): I don't really know how to describe this any different that I said before, since it would just be the same thing as in Benefits. A lower FPS would simply bring us back to our normal, playable state, instead of his herky jerky state we are in now, where everything feels awkward and combat more difficult.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding is what got this FPS increase in the first place, so it's time to roll it back and get us back to normal.

When I played it this morning I realised how all of the movements felt slightly smoother but when in combat it made the marines feel so slow in comparison to the aliens more so than usual and just wasn't that exciting. So I'm giving my +1 to go back to the original.

It does seem jerkier now, on the xeno side you seem to stop and start in spurts going from tile to tile.

+1, it is the equivalent of running a very old game on new hardware (the acceleration is insane)

Honestly it's a mixed bag, on one side we get smoother everything, but on the other hand it's like one of those 20s movies where everything is turbo accellerated...

I'd say it's a +1/2, as in it's ok it's smoother, but at the same time it should be a little slower than the current one (on top of that to pepole who have a potato internet like me, it's kinda the struggle with how byond work).

I was playing a young runner with the new update. A young drone almost kept pace with me and it felt like I moved slower in general.

In my Opinion, the movement is more sophisticated currently. Just a few repairs involving the xenos should be done, other than that, there's nothing I think is necessary to alter.

I played earlier as a runner and I could not handle it, it was jerky and kinda laggy, I was skipping tiles o_O , combat was near impossible, when I pounce on someone theres a good 2 or 3 secs delay before my screen switches to the pounced marine position and by then they shot me to shits

I'M LAGGING HARDER THAN DMC3!
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.
