Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
You shouldn't be able to know that the bullet that just came in from offscreen and hit you is an armor-piercing M39 bullet and not a hollowpoint revolver bullet. Hell, you shouldn't even know you got hit by a bullet at all, often people IRL only realize the damage and not that they got shot.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Realism and immersion. Limited information also benefits gameplay.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Rename all bullet projectiles to just "bullet".

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

There'd be no accountability for whose bullet shot who and it would probably make testing things harder.

Possibly. A glob of acid and a neurotoxic cocktail could move at slow enough speeds, with enough visual difference from each other, that marines would have a general idea of which one does what.

You still have "X has fired his [weapon]" text immediately preceding "The bullet has hit Y!", as well as the distinct rifle sounds, decreased ammo count in the mag, and visual sprite, along with comical (blatantly physics violating, but worth keeping for hilarity) knockback from getting close ranged shotgunned. Also even though you wouldn't be able to see the projectile midflight I think it'd be safe for buckshot pellets to be named "buckshot pellets", though ICwise you would only know they were used because of how different they act on targets (gameplaywise, obviously IRL the spread's not that big). But slugs, revolver ammo, pistol ammo, rifle ammo, SMG ammo, etc should all just be called "bullet", or if necessary there'd be "bullet" and "AP bullet" just because the latter would probably go clean through someone while the former wouldn't.

By the way if any of you want to know what prompted this suggestion, it was a friendly fire incident right after first drop where some guy got pointblanked with, what I read in chat as, a "slimline revolver bullet", which I asked about IC before realizing how fucking stupid it was that my character could tell the name of the bullet that went through someone but not what it actually is. It's marksman ammo by the way.
