Voice channels for squads

Post by BobaFett07 » 17 Jun 2017, 14:14

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):I think it is really hard to communicate with your teammates in middle of action, it is hard for me to type and run or fire at the same time, and the best way to remove this obstacle for both sides would be voice channels for squadmates, and aliens

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):increase roleplay, make it easier to hear commands and also it is really easy to do, the only downfall would be the need to have a discord, but the chat is still there if you really need it, but it would make briefings faster, and much better ways to communicate

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):well just add some voice chats on discord like "Aliens" "USCM" "Delta Squad" "Bravo Squad" etc...

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):just add voice channels on discord, it is that simple

Welp. There's gonna be autistic screaming. That would also mean people would communicate less in normal ingame chat which means there will be groups of people talking on discord and people writting ingame.

Yep, this will bring too much chaos in marines' communication. Sometimes I think about how it would be great to have voice communication for marins, but I understand how messy it will be.

This would just fuck up the marines communication waaaaay too much. Also imagine someone screaming down the mic because they are wounded the autism would be real, funny at the same time bur your ears would be gone.

Immersion and atmosphere are over the the top, though.

I see multiple problems with this,

1) if your suggesting this on discord, meta-communication, let's say marine A dies, he says in the discord where his body is, fellow squad mates get his body/he calls out xeno positions.
2) If your talking in the actual game, thats impossible to code due to BYOND being a very gimped engine.

well we would need people in the voice channels to control it, obviously, and I played in games with friends without mics, and I didn't have problems with them having to write, and discord Is 100% free so there is no excuse to not have it

The excuse is, that voice chat and roleplaying don't go well together. It always turns into chaos ten minutes in and will lead into people always yelling.
Plus immersion shattering if you have a grizzled XO yelling at you with an adolescent shriek.

Sadly, it will not blend well with the immersion in most cases. I somehow always imagine XO/CO/... with a badass voice. It will be more lively but will indeed turns into chaos as soon as there are contacts/wounded/gunfire above the voices.

Review and discussed by BMC.

Denied for the simple lack of ability to even attempt this on the engine.
