Hand doesn't work after surgery
Bug Description:
I went on surgery and the doctor fixed my right hand and other broken bones, after that I was unable to use my right hand... I didn't went in a stasys bag, my healt was a 100% as well. Tharinoma followed the case when I ahelped. I don't know how did this happen if maybe the doc made a mistake or what
Steps to reproduce:
1. get broken bones ( right hand especially )
2. get to surgery to fix it
3. after that the hand should be paralyzed and won't recover even with cryo and health is at 100% full

Are you sure the doctor did not simply fail to properly fix your hand? Are you sure the cryo cell had chemicals in it and at the right temperature?

Yes I'm sure about that, my health was full, no bones damage or organs, cryo was fully operative and the trial admin Tharinoma followed me during the whole episode

Happened once with me too. Doctor rechecked in scanner, it showed nothing wrong. I wasn't in stasis bag, so it couldn't be genetic. They had to amputate my arm to fix it.

This happens only when you use oxy instead of anesthetics in my experience.

No, rarely happens for me as doc even though I only use anesthetics.

Happened to me too. I was in surgery with nearly every bone in my body fractured and when I woke up I could not use my hand. The doc only used normal anesthetic.

Oh yeah this bug...
I'm not entirely sure on the circumstances that would re-create such bug but this bug has been here for more than enough time (I've first seen this bug once pre-defib ID lock it if not mistaken). The other doctor who got this problem described it as "nerve damage". I even scan, cryo'ed and even did surgery again in my own hands to make sure it isn't just some wacky incompetence. But to no avail, so we had to delimb it and replace it with robo hands.

Honestly barely any bugs concerning surgery got fixed since pre-alpha, and there has been just new bugs popping up.

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
This just happened to me, or something like it. I was getting surgery to get a fresh right hand and apparently I had an untreated wound on my other hand. During surgery under normal tank anesthetic, I got this message:
You can't feel your left hand anymore...
You have a high fever!
When I woke up, I couldn't use my left hand, and it had turned grey. After the infection was treated fully, I still could not use it. Handheld scanners and body scanners both showed nothing wrong.
This seems pretty intentional, however, with the change to grey and the message I received. So perhaps this is a different issue. If it is intentional, is amputation and replacement the only way to fix it?

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
This probably means doc didn't wash his hands before surgery, and hence you got a slight infection as a result. I don't think it's the reason why hands don't work after surgery though. None of my patients ever had this issue, but I do get players who ahelp about it. Still no idea what causes this problem... I'll need to do extensive testing someday.rev_benji wrote:You have a high fever!

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
I did get an infection from an untreated minor wound on the hand that was NOT being operated on, the one that became unusable. The only thing that fixed it was amputating it and giving me another robo hand. I'm looking through baycode and it does seem to be an intentional effect of high level infection. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it besides amputation by looking through the code but I'm not much of a coder so we'll see.

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
I tested trying to duplicate this bug, but to no avail. Tried breaking all the limbs, removing or leaving the splints, healing or not healing the damage, force breaking the bone and fixing it back up, skipping non-crucial steps, deliberately not washing my hands and getting their wound infected etc. I ran out of ideas on how else to replicate it...

I'm trying to test it but I lack a certain freedom of action. Edit: I'm 100% sure its because of infection. Go to This page and ctrl+f "you can't feel"

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
I'll probably test again and let the infection worsen somehow on purpose. Maybe it's because I completed the surgeries too fast for the infection to worsen or affect the hand that badly. I'll try again tomorrow when I got time.

Re: Hand doesn't work after surgery
Did a little more research and I think that this condition can be treated by performing an "internal" organs repair surgery on the affected body part. So I'm guessing this isn't a bug at all. That is assuming that the original poster had some untreated injury on the broken hand that eventually erupted into stage 3 infection around the time of the surgery, which to me seems very likely. I only noticed the grey hand because my other hand had been cut off and I didn't have gloves.
I'm going to try to test this.
