Predator New Item - Emp Blaster

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Give Predators an item that inhibits comms (radio/hivemind) for 30-45 seconds in an area of effect. This can be similar to an EMP Grenade but fired like the Plasma Caster. Have this item be an ammo type, specifically for the Plasma Caster.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Allow Predators to engage "Prey" without feeling the need to wound them greatly and drag them away. Also will encourage Preds to engage Xenos without the fear of the entire Hive collapsing on them within seconds.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): EMP blast modified to inhibit hive mind as well. Perhaps the blast, from a RP perspective, interferes with the hive mind??

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Our great coders will have an idea, not I!

It could be a psi disruptor. It's technology. I imagine there's a biological aspect of the hive mind. Maybe it's electrical impulses. Regardless, Predators have discovered have temporarily learned how to inhibit that Hivemind to provide them with the chance to have a "fair fight".

Regardless, I'd be fine with just radios.

Xenos using hivemind for backup is never used outside of when its a young runner spotting you. Since if an ayy wants to get away, who is usually something from the runner caste, they can do it easily.

Seems like an interesting way to do stuff while hunting, by disabling communication it gives the predator a safe timeframe to hunt without fear of swarms, and it's something that sounds like what the predators would use.

+1 for an item that disables comms in an area.

Shouldn't really be suggesting new weapons, but on the flip side of things; I don't know how canonical that is.

Call it an ammo type for the Plasma caster, then? It offensively weakens them for the benefit of stealth, but *shrug* not sure on the canon portion.

That's actually a pretty interesting idea, could work basically just by having the caster fire the bolt that a normal ion rifle does. Or you could make it a stationary "jammer" instead of a weapon that covers a certain area for a similar effect that requires a bit more work on the preds (and coders) part.

Not sure how I feel about the hivemind thing, seems like it'd be hard to work out more than just fluff wise.

The xeno hivemind is pretty much psionic telepathic fuckery, so they'd need a sort of psi disrupter. I wouldn't roll that into an EMP though.

To be fair, it's more like a tool than a weapon. Does a jammer count as a weapon?

(PS: This thing really shouldn't be a blaster if it gets added, a stationary jammer that jammed everything in a radius would be much better. And maybe it could jam the SL cams, too.)

It'd be cool as a lodging tool, you can put it by your lodge and it fux with electronics in a certain radius. It has strengths and weaknesses because marines may be inclined to investigate the source of interference. Could be interesting.
