Inner Jaw! (Aliens Feature)

Post by Aracino » 29 Jun 2017, 16:28

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Lets aliens use their inner jaw on critted marines. The jaw attack takes 6 seconds before delivering 100 brute damage to the head and 50% brain damage. (Numbers variable) Since you know, the alien just ripped a chunk of your head out.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Lets aliens use their inner jaw like they do in the movies! Except on people who are already pretty much dead.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Given how many slashes it takes to kill a critted marine, I don't think this would be too much of a stretch to add. Allows Xenos to have more gorey kills and gives their inner jaw an IG use. I just think it'd be nice to let aliens use their iconic inner jaw "braining" attack. Think of this as a mini-gib available to all xenos.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding.

See the problem with this, that if you're pain critted there's literally nothing you can do. Also you can just be tackle spammed by like 2 other xenos and then you just insta killed as a pred/human. Mostly pointing towards preds because they got a lot of shit to worry about and an insta kill that takes 6 seconds to activate? I get that's a lot of time but tackle spams are a bitch. Also what if they can get defibbed? It'd just be a hassle to have to deal with even MORE xeno shenanigans.
-1 feels a bit too unnecessary with a lot of nerfs to predators.

...So we're balancing xenos around predators now? Xenos aren't very strong right now, any marine worth their salt can kill a good xeno. Plus if your in crit, it'd likely take less time to just slash you to death. This is flavor if anything.

Edit: And again, I said VARIABLE in the post. I'm not the on who'd decide to put it in, I was just putting in an example. If your in pain crit and a xeno can spend 6+ seconds near you to do this, you're probably dead anyways. Plus they've done this in every movie ever, if we were going by them, xenos who pounce could literally one shot EVERYONE.

Yeah but the headbite suggestion was deleted because of the CQC update. Which was cancelled because the dev behind it resigned.

as a marine main, i am SLIGHTLY against this, considering how marines are still able to stand while critted in some circumstances, and even past this, all it takes is a hunter running up to you with a tail-strike ready to impale you and send you straight into crit

consider this how you will

aliens already have generally good melee attacks, and if youre going to put a 6 second delay on it, well, how many normal scratches could you get in during those 6 seconds? and it has to be against someone who's already on the floor, and on the floor for a full 6 seconds, so again, youre obviously not in any rush, because someone on the floor for that long is probably either tacklespammed with the help of other aliens (who could have helped you scratch him to death much more quickly) tied up in a nest (you should be putting a hugger on him in this case) in paincrit (helpless and can be scratched to death at your leisure) or asleep (same)

tail attack already receives only moderate amounts of use at best, this ability sounds even less useful

at least edit the proposed ability to be both useful and unique mechanically

My only concern is that this rivals infecting them. So often xenos kill instead of infecting, sometimes even nested are killed by a blood hungry one. If those have to decide between the fancy kill and the infecting of the helpless host, I don't think it's a question which one they will choose.

Never infect a marine in hard crit. They'll die before the larva bursts most of the time, you know.
