Iron Sights

Post by Butterrobber202 » 04 Jul 2017, 23:23

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Add a Command to the Weapons Tab to allow Marines to utilize Iron Sights on their weapons. The Command would be replaced if you equipped a Rail Scope or other Optics.

Benefits: MUH IMMERSIONS, A small helpful buff to the Marines.

Details: On the Rifle, Pistol, and SMG add Iron sights that focus the Marine's screen forward, and extend their sight range by a few tiles, 2 at the least and 4 at the max. I say it should focus it forward so it's not complete 360 Vision, and the holy BALANCE.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code, numbers, and a fuckton of Coffee

considering this was most likely stripped from another server, the WW2 one to be exact, dont think this will be added.

This has been in my mind long before Ava appeared with her WW2 Server, her Server only tells me that its possible. And even if it was ripped from another Server, if its a good Gameplay feature, who cares?

View range is a lot more powerful than you think, huge buff that isn't needed for marines. -1

Masked is right, in WW2 iron sights are needed, the map is monumental in size and you need as much view as you can before someone one-shots you, on CM tho? nah thanks -1

it does not sound unreasonable. it could be introduced simultaneously with a counterbalance such as letting aliens smash/melt lights more quickly, allowing them to actively counter that view range boost with darkness

I ain't feeling it. I feel like this is a bit to strong a buff to give marines right now.

I think even with a view range, it wouldn't change much.

Accuracy for a gun is often more based on the GUN than the LoS. I seen guys with modified Pulse Rifles spray bullets down range and EVERY SINGLE SHOT MISSING, even though they are probably clicking directly on their target.

It is a rare chance for a shot to hit beyond normal range for a weapon, hence why the scope is more useful for tactical assessment than long range support. Leave it to snipers with guns MADE for sniping to do said sniping.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

This wouldn't be fun. You'd get tired of having to move and scope ever few tiles.

It would get pretty agonizing.

Being able to shoot from offscreen is too powerful for something you can do with any weapon, aiming down sights in real life does not magnify your view and this is really not needed

When you wield your gun, you're already implied to be aiming your gun

in real life youre also not seeing yourself from above and only able to see a perfect 15x15 step square all around you, so this isnt a great sort of argument to adopt when discussing an ss13-based game, at least when it comes to vision and aiming mechanics. in real life people can see and use iron sights to reasonably shoot at targets quite a bit farther than 7 steps in front of them. of course, this comes at the cost of not having eyes in the backs of our heads irl.

of course as others have noted, all the zoom in the world wont do you much good unless the hard coded accuracy and dodge chances arent also tweaked - just yesterday i was an alien sandwiched in a 1-tile hallway with a human on either side. i was trying to disarm and push past one of the humans while the other was firing down the hall. some of the bullets were missing me, passing thru my tile, and hitting the human on the other side of me, hilarious.

If you really wanted a ADS concept you could have a 'steady aim' function where if you stand stationary and activate the ability you gain a slight accuracy increase, but you take a second to be able to move on your own.

Alternatively you could add one or two ACOG sights to cargo or to Squad Leaders that let them see two tiles ahead, but that's really pushing it.
This is war, survival is your responsibility.

im with Dylan and Joshuu here. Weilding the weapon is implied aiming- that buff would just end up being agonizing as hell.

As a marine main, no from me. Even if it is a buff it'd get hella annoying.
