Nerf nests?

Post by Infernus » 02 May 2015, 07:03

So, is is really annoying how impossible it is to escape with so much effort you put in, while aliens melt all your gear and can stick you right back with zero effort...

I think that nests should have 2 uses before drone/queen/hivelord has to spit additional resin (Click on the nest, wait for 15 seconds) to reset the uses.(Nest must be empty)

So, if you have someone who escaped, you can restick him back down after tackling, but when he gets up again, you can't stick him to the same resin nest.

This will give marines major boost to their survival chance when captured. Containing hosts will still be easy as long as they don't hold them all in one room.

Thoughts?

1. Why isn't this in the Suggestions forum?

2. I don't think it'll do much. If anything, it'll make aliens want to stay right on top of hosts so that they can be tackled and placed onto a new nest. If aliens don't stay right on top of the host, then they run over, tackle them, and place them on a new nest anyway.

3. I don't see this as a problem.

Shiet, posted in the wrong section.

Well, it certainly is a problem.
How to make inescapable hives:
1) When you get a facehugged marine, make sure you strip everything you can and melt it, as well as any potential weapon near him.
2) Stand on top of him as sentinel or warrior, and look at them failing at escaping.
3) Repeat until they burst. One warrior can keep up to 8 marines in one area nested.

It is impossible to escape unless they don't melt your weapon or camp above you.

Pretty much what happens right now. We can do a test run for few days if you'd want, it is only few lines of code.

Marines would get up from most of the tackles, since it takes time to doublegrab

Actually, i managed to doublegrab a marine before, and threw him inside the hive before he could even get up, this is especially from warriors, queens and etc

And to be fair, its annoying, you sit in your nest insanely long, and can only escape from it 3 times before you burst, that is all, only 3 attempts while you guarded by walking piledrivers that instantly tackle your shit back into boring insanely long nest

Gonna have to say we already get nest guards who tackle you as soon as you get up so wouldn't make much difference on that front.

It is not as if you SHOULD be able to escape from it anyhows. That resin is thick as f00k. Have you seen what nested marines look like in the franchise? I am not asking for escaping to be removed but making it easier to escape just doesn't make sense. It should be up to the others to rescue you like when ripley drives into the hive.

This is why the nests need to show resin covering the marines.
I'd give you a picture from the movies, but there aren't any. Seriously. I googled everything I could think of to find it and I couldn't.
So here's something for reference as to how glued to the nest you are, as far as body coverage goes.

Image

Replace the duct tape with resin and slap a hugger over the face, thats pretty much what you look like in a nest.

To be honest nests as they currently are, are fine.. In regards of balance(In the alpha we may need a change up but i mean before then they are fine.) but it would be nice if we had a whole redo of the sprites for the infestation as they seems fairly eh... Not gooey enough, well i mean that they don't exactly give the vibe of 'aliens' it would be nice if it was maybe darker in colour with some other stuff... Which i can't really out into words....

I think the mechanics of the nest are fine, they are not supposed to be easily breakable/broken out of to the point where Marines can escape on a game by game basis. That defeats the whole purpose of having a secure place to put hosts for the Xenos if Marines just repeatedly break out all the time.
Marines should only ever 'escape' the nesting area if unhugged marines overrun it and rescue them. Once in awhile a marine makes it out or does considerable damage to the hive or kills a Xeno or two, and thats fine, but any easier and it would be detrimental to Xeno gameplay.
I play Xeno 99% of the time. All castes.

Personally, I just think it's somewhat strange that ALL aliens are allowed to do to marines is capturing and even that is something that most want to nerf, while aliens just get killed on the spot.

In the movies, it seems virtually impossible to get someone out of a nest...However seeing as this is a game...I personally dont see much problem with the nests at this stage. If you know how to hide things, you'll be fine!

Go watch the movies, they're webbed in WAY more securely than that.

Is he even stuck? It looks like he could just climb out of it.

I'm 100% sure that resins are sticky as duct tape against the wall.

I dunno, it looks like he isn't even attatched to it. He looks like he's floating. Look at his left hand, its not even touching anything he could just pull it out.

If a marine is able to escape without help, it should ONLY be because the aliens fucked up. Either, they didn't build a proper hive, they nested you in a badly secured area, or they aren't paying attention.
