Remove Research

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Take Research out of the Sulaco... Containment too. Players will use this as an excuse to keep the players as 'test subjects' because they're infected, as well act as they are Weland-Yutani officers. As SASoperative says, Marines should care and love each other, not treat as this is nothing personal, just business. Although, no one captures the aliens every round, even when it's down to critical, they'll right away kill it off.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Lesser pissed off marines being used as an excuse by being infected.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Take it out completely.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Mappers.

I agree 100% with this. EVERYTIME I see research ever bein used by non admin researchers all its ever used for is forcefully stuffing marines in holding cells or making grenades that do not do anything. Quiet frankly I see a SHIT load of issues with research and most mutinies/issues with command come from it. I am tired of players abusing research when they know what its for. Your marines, Not Weyland Yutani you should not be putting infected marines in research against their will. It gives you a bad score when marines chest burst FOR a reason your supposed to PREVENT them from bursting. Not to mention the grenades that are made alot of the time consist of explosions that fuck up atmos. I have not even seen a grenade made in so long, The only use I have seen from the chem dispenser in research in the past week is DRUGS.

Honestly just REMOVE it all and maybe add a Permabrig where Containment is for marines who actually do something to get that sentence and maybe add a emergency gun and ammo storage where research is, Reason I say that is because if aliens knock out the power than new marines can not get new guns due to the vendors loosing power however if they travel all the way to the other side of the station they could get some if they survive (It would be a boltable door of course)

I can say we can put in a recreational area for Military Police, Logistic Officers, and Sulaco Medic to waste their time until bad things starts occurring.

Recreational will consist of:

-Arcades
-Pool (or beach)
-Cards
-Game Boards
-Basketball
-Dodgeball
-Etc.

I highly disagree cause than whats the point of having permenant holding in marine law if we don't have anything to put them in, I also do not see this being a thing a military vessel would need. I also would see marines using it and we are not supposed to support STAYING on the sulaco and fucking around

..... Again no need to waste the rooms we can fill them with stuff that is beneficial. No need to continue arguing about it and just go with the Idea man... We need something for marines with that high punishment and when Xenos cut the power new players have no guns....

Things a long-range military transport vessel needs, and/or was shown in various related films/games:

* Dorms/sleepers
* Grunt's/public mess hall
* Bridge/navigation
* Captain's room
* Logistics/quartermaster's
* Briefing hall
* Shuttle hangar
* Hospital
* Support crew areas (MP)
* Engine room
* Storage bays (with fully equipped or buildable Ripleys, and very large, secure doors leading to space)
* Construction area
* Officer's mess hall
* Kitchen
* Fuel storage
* Corporate/Admiral/Commandant office
* Family zone
* Communications/sensors/scanning room


Submarines are incredibly tiny and cramped for a reason - because every square inch smaller means it's cheaper to produce and they're able to fit more stuff in it, as well as wasting less oxygen. Having an on-board research area of any kind is just plain silly unless it were specifically a research vessel, that stuff is NOT cheap and on a military transport it would sit idle and wasted 99.9% of the time.

Ideally you would have most common things pre-built and have a constructor on ship with a variety of raw goods to quickly construct anything you need, like a futuristic 3-d printer is not out of the question (for example in building grenades). I'm probably the one who abuses research/robotics the most but I think it should be removed.

It's also feasible that there would be a completely seperate, but spartan wing for civilians, such as family members who are traveling along or high-value individuals being transported from one place to the other, or for Corporate Stooges who want to travel in some degree of luxury.

Just my two cents.

If we take jone's idea of a firing range but instead have a say training room for Lo's to test marines on how they work in a squad etc.. or it can just be a laser tag room for marines to have duels and work on their teamwork etc..

I would like to see research removed. Replace it with a better brig, maybe a smaller Fore armory. Also the other suggestions could work as well. Also, a proper scrubber/waste system for Atmos would be fine. Or hell, replace research with a fuctional Atmospherics room.

Hmm a better brig does sound nice but i also like the laser tag kind of idea :/

SAS and Jones both had good ideas .. Abbysynth also, nailed it.. For the rest of the stuff in that list we do not have, which we can fill in on the sulaco. There are spaces in the front of the ship which are not used.

I think that a storage bay, which was in the list we don't have. could adequately replace it. Random items in the warehouse such as random or obsolete guns, CLOTHING, and rations could work and a small garage for ripleys and mechs with like one prebuilt mech for each squad and a Robotics section. Perhaps we could replace the research job with Robotics and/or a Warehouse manager, as Medical would really be be doing any sort of emergency research.

I'd love to see the return of the technician-class reconstruction system in replace of the Research system. Scan an object, find its makeup, bring the schematic back to the technician's bench, construct a board with the schematic made from scanning said object using the bench, assemble the parts for the board by dispensing and adding the proper parts to the board from technician dispenser located near technician's bench, assemble the finished board to construct said technology.
