Huggers and Helmets

Post by HalfdeadKiller » 09 May 2015, 06:37

Bug Description:
A concise description of what the problem is. Pure description, no narrative or conversational language.

Not all helmets block huggers as stated in the changelog.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Step by step instructions on how to reproduce this bug.
  2. Do not assume anything, the more detailed your list of instructions, the easier it is for the developer to track down the problem!
1. Grab helmet such as Captains Space Helmet.
2. Put on helmet.
3. Wonder why helmet did not protect from huggers.

(Optional) Other notes:

The changelog stated that all helmets protect from one hugger, unless otherwise stated. And given the nerfs, I was hoping that this meant every helmet protected from at least one hugger. I'm unsure if this is a bug or not, but not every helmet protects from at least one hugger.

I noticed this too, and it doesn't even give a message that it was ripped off; your helmet just disappears and you get instantly hugged.

Ahem. Well. I somewhat doubt that you should even be taking the captains helmet when you have a normal one of your own and if you lose yours, suck it up. I've gone no helmet a couple times and it is fine as long as you don't fucking charge into a hive

"suck it up" is hardly a worthwhile reply to what's an obvious bug.

The point does still stand, those helmets were made worse to dissuade marines from using them. Whilst yes, it is a bug, and yes, it will be looked into, the point you should be taking is why are you intentionally using an inferior helmet?

I'd like to see engineering helmets with a toggle-able visor for welding and mounted flashlights comparable to the hardhat. Perhaps the solution here is not to revise how helmets are handled against aliens but rather design more assets for the marines to use to protect them against being hugged.

I noticed that it is possible for a marine to wield a knife using their knife slot. Would be awesome if this had a chance to prevent against facehugging and had a chance to kill the facehugger.

I've been thinking about the ability for a marine to "fasten" their helmet to make it harder for marines to remove their helmet and to slightly fortify themselves against facehuggers. Marines could unfasten them by dealing damage to the Marine's head or by attempting to remove the helmet, having a timer similar to removing handcuffs for unfastening.
