Summary:Add a miniature tutorial for new players at the setup screen
Benefits:So new players get the idea that for example they can't do fuck all, don't aim for the head for extra damage, learn the basics, not get the rest of us angry for their stupidity.
Details:I have seen countless amount of times that marines aimed for the head, did fuck all but annoy everyone and got other marines killed. I say it is just time to let them know that they can't do this and show them how to properly play CM.
Implementation:It is like the update screen but it's just a bunch of text with a big READ ME sign in red, anyone can just exit the screen by going to the bottom and clicking blah blah blah and they have to do a small quiz based on the wall of text like Do you aim for the head of an xenomorph and such and such(just easy questions)(you just have to do it once so you never see it again)

Re: Miniature tutorial for noobs
I sort of agree with this, though I'd rather opt for a tutorial placed on the wiki about basic things of what to do and what not to do, but as to the wall of text and the quiz, I'd have to disagree with that, mainly because it's the player's choice whether they aim for the head or the body. While not every decision someone makes is going to benefit gameplay for everyone, they should still have the choice to do so.

Re: Miniature tutorial for noobs
i would potentially see this as a waste of time as we have guides on the forums for what you describe just it doesn't have a quiz, so if players are like hur dur aiming for head does more damage just link them a guide on shooting or if a alien player is being incompetent link them a alien guide.

Make everyone spawn with a Colonial Marine Uplifting Primer in their pocket, describing how stuff on the server works both IC (applying for a squad, chain of command, squad roles) and OOC (how to set up a macro for pumping the shotgun, bullet paths, tips for interface).
I could help writing it, however, english is not my primary language.

Lockie 'Furry' Hughes, your local source of annoyance, medicine and Will. E. Coyote engineering. Mostly medicine. Maybe annoyance.

+1
Best idea. A little book where new players can see how colonial works.

Re: Miniature tutorial for noobs
Fairly sure ages ago on the old forum we said we were going to do tutorial vids at some point but never arranged a date or time so nothing happened but if anyone still is up for it i think it could work if tutorials are still what is needed...

Re: Miniature tutorial for noobs
I know of a byond game that does have a tutorial section, I can see the benefits of it and I understand why it's done but it felt slightly neglected and like it wasn't describing things properly for the new player. If anything, it turned people away.
I feel it'd be a lot of work and might not even pay off in the long term. SS13 is a game that isn't learnt in a day but, with the wiki and the admin team to help, it won't take too long before you know the jist of everything anyway.
