Stop powergamey aliens

Post by Briankada » 25 May 2015, 12:30

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
All I ever see aliens do is wall their hosts of individually, and have an xeno constantly camp around the nest ready to tacklenest them again. Put a rule against this so it seems they aren't powergaming.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Gives marines a chance to escape. At the moment all that happens is you're walled off on all sides and once you're out you're instantly nested again. Might make it more fair on the marines in terms of escaping or having a chance of at least getting somewhere.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Just a simple rule that stops aliens walling off their hosts giving them no space to move and a chance for marines to escape.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Add a rule.

Aliens are smart enough to realize that the hosts will attempt to escape. Walling them off and guarding them so that they don't manage to do so is only normal.

Marines can leave the hive either with knife by themselves, or by calling for help with the headset that it just so happens aliens can't remove. You don't need aliens helping you with your escape by not doing stuff you don't like.

With marines unable to get re-hugged xenos have a really hard time with escapees as it is. The only things they CAN do are walling or constant tackling, because of course marines will just get up and start messing things up. If there's another way to solve that I'm all ears.

The ability for marines to squeeze through resin doors? It would take time, maybe 10 - 20 seconds? If we can break out of a resin nest then surely there'll be a way to get through a door? Even if it does some brute damage.

-1 I don't even see specifics on what this rule would be.

+1 but generally, its hard or impossible to make it a rule but making something that can PREVENT it would be nice as fuck, its annoying to get put into a nest, surrounded only by 1 resin door and the rest walls, even worser when you have your equipment stripped off, making it impossible to escape and making you worthless since you can't even un-nest someone

My point exactly. Though this is nice in theory, it only works when it's something that we staff can enforce.

I understand the frustration with escaping... but as stated the Aliens have no way of suppressing the marines once they've been facehugged.

I'm neutral on this. Aliens should be encouraged to continually hunt and tend to the hive. Keeping an eye hosts is understandable. Being sealed behind resin doors and walls does get old and very annoying, especially with how OP alium disarm is. Can't help but get frustrated when a hivelord or warrior is sitting over my nest though, as these castes should have something better to be doing than watching an infected marine struggle.

Colonial Marines on SS13 is a strategy game, if the Queen deems it necessary to have an alien guarding the hosts and keeping them in line, then that is a resource the queen has the right to expend. In essence, it can be annoying, but a marine that is constantly resisting is annoying too; a rule to this effect would be as bad as a rule stating that the marine can only attempt to escape one time.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

-1. I've said this before, but lemme reierate: if you get nested, you shouldn't be able to escape by their hive by yourself (unless the aliens fucked up badly). Stop thinking you're Rambo.

10-20 seconds is a lot, especially with the... current hive design trends.* Ability to squeeze through resin doors wouldn't allow you to escape, just... do something other than punching resin in that corner you've been walled off in.

-1 While I would like to have less 1x1 box nests, it would be hell to try and enforce this rule.

-1 due to the fact it's more of a mechanics problem. Making a rule to "prevent" aliens from power-gaming would just make it less enjoyable in the long run more than likely.

The reason marines are walled off in small sections is because they are so darn fast (especially with armor off) compared to drones (who are the main watchers of caught marines) who are slower than marines and have horrible (the worst?) tackling chances. If captured marines are given any room they'll run around like chickens with their heads cut off while trying to free other marines who do the same thing WHILE pulling a knife out of their whatever and stabbing the drone/everything within reach and then the drone gets overwhelmed and a marine finally gets a gun and starts shooting the drone/any eggs in the vicinity and then the drone has to call for backup. Or they just whip out a gun and shoot themselves in the head. There is no animal on the planet who captures live prey and doesn't try to keep it secure as possible.

Yeah its a mechanics thing, but I can't think of a solution that wouldn't ruins Xenos.
I play Xeno 99% of the time. All castes.

Maybe because it's a fucking drone's job to watch over the nest?

It's really the sentinel's job to watch over the nest and hosts. They are equipped for taking down already infected hosts with their spit. So spit'pull, nest

I'm neutral here, but there could be a rule stating that only one sentinel/defensive type alien could watch over the whole nest/section of It....?
99% of Marines at breaching training...

Sentinels are the guards, drones are the builders, and runners are the hunters. But it seems to be different. The hunters are the guards, the sentinels are the hunters and the drones do all three..

Aliens are suppose to be hard to kill, ever watch a aliens movie?
I suggest get better, people have wiped out hives before.
It's about team work and coordination, putting a rule in dosen't stop the other team from stomping you.
It would make no one want to play aliens.

Gonna have to agree with German here we don't need this, aliens don't need anymore nerfs currently, they really need one buff to bring them up to playing fields with marines.
