Stop Tasers from Displaying "Critical" On Targets' HUDs.

Post by Juninho77 » 02 Jun 2015, 06:08

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Currently, tasers display "critical" health to anyone hit by it. That's not good.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
There is one HUGE problem with the HUD displaying "Critical" after someone's been hit by a taser shot: They think they were critted. And that's not their fault at all - HUD displays "critical health", they think they are in critical health.

That causes big problems, of which I have two examples. Number one, there was a recent admin report against Jake because he used, partially, being shot by a taser gun into critical state as reasoning for a ban.

Number two is a round that I played as a commander. The very first person that got shot by me (marine that got tased for trespassing) ahelped it and said that I had put them into critical. Later in the round, I had some misunderstanding with MP's (they tried to shoot me) and had to stun them. They both said I "almost killed them." They tried shooting me again in bridge. Well, in the firefight that ensued I stunned five people. Three of which decided to shout on radio that the commander was "killing everyone". I ended up with a mutiny in my hands (partially) because people misinterpreted being shot by a taser gun as "being shot into critical."

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
You'd have to rework the way stamina loss is displayed. It's currently displayed through your health indicator, which is a terrible idea. Health indicators are for health, and there's a huge difference between feeling tired and feeling dead.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
I don't know. Create a new icon on the HUD, or use text messages to indicate your feeling tired, instead?

If you would permaban a player, you owe it to him to look into his logs and hear his side of the story. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the player does not deserve to be banned.

It's called paincrit, and it's heavily coded into SS13. If other people think it should change, then by all means. However, it makes sense, being shot by a taser is pretty damn painful. Staff just need to look for these things, and players should be corrected when they think they've been shot into a medically critical condition. That indicator is meant to tell you how your character FEELS, and not his actual health; there are medical scanners for that.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

I have two different sources disagreeing with you: Bay12 Wiki and the game itself.
► Show Spoiler

Edited: Just for clarification, I'm not saying you are wrong. The game does use that to indicate pain, but then the game and the wiki tell everyone that the indicator means "health."

-1, Biolock is actually correct. Your displayed health is more of a guess or how you feel. Your actual health value is hidden to you without use of medical equipment (Health HUD, Health Analyzer, ect...)

Tasers incapacitate you through extreme voltage that throws your body out of whack for a few moments up to minutes. You probably aren't going to die but when every nerve in your body is hit with 10,000+ volts it certainly feels like it.

Taking something like Tramadol, you could actually BE in Critical condition but your HUD would display you as yellow or even green. I've been slashed into the red by warriors before, ate my pill and suddenly I was back in the green and moving at full speed again even as I was bleeding out. Once the Tramadol wore off I flopped over and had to be dragged back to the FOB by my buddy.

This is how you "feel" not your actual health.

Also, heads up, that bay wiki your quoting, is nearly 4 years ahead of our code.

We are working on a conversion, but the heal icon is ALWAYS "how you feel" your "health" is always a hidden number.

Perhaps make it scramble your HUD in addition to the critical reading to indicate its just a severe electric shock.

Pft, that requires effort, and animation.

Off Subject Question: how does one "feels" their "health."

...Oh.

Anyhow, this would be a stupid thing for developers to waste their time to change.

As usual, thank you for your honesty.

Suggestion withdrawn.
