Alien nesting side-effects

Post by Butterrobber202 » 12 Jun 2015, 00:24

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):( This is going to be short and sweet) When a Marine is put into a nest he is sitting right on top of it, and let's be honest if YOU had a prisoner you'd make damn sure he stayed put, with nest I'd shove him ALITTLE deeper into the nest maybe to wear maybe some of his mid section is covered resin. So when he gets out he would have resin ON him because what idiot takes the time to pull every little piece of resin off him? So in this I want it to make it where Marine pop out of nests covered in gooey purple resin, that impairs movement. Removed by maybe help intent knife. So this would slow speed of escaped marines running around like a chicken with its head cut off around the hive.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Easier for aliens to capture already infected host, more REALISTIC

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Descibed above.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Idk, this is more meant for PROJECT ALPHA than anything

+1 Because seriously, if aliens can't remember what the fuck is a resin door is and that drones are NOT suppose to guard these hosts, then give them that

Okay, but only if we get nests more like these in the movies - no 1x1 solitary confinement spam.

Honestly, I really dislike the fact that marines can resist out of nests at all. In the movies, not a single person ever escaped from any nest by themselves, they always had someone else dig them out (see: Newt and Ripley). For gameplay purposes it's a little different, since a downed marine is pretty much guaranteed to be nested if the xenos are on the ball. However, on the alpha the places you can put both weeds and nests are VERY limited, as weeds can't be built on the jungle or water turfs and you can't build nests unless there's weeds there.

As a mostly-marine player I'd be rather okay with nests much harder to escape from - if only that would stop aliens from sitting on nests and building mazes of doors. If I escape only to be tackled the exact second (or one door smashed with my fists later) and put in the nest again, I'd rather not escape.

Thats because in the movies the resin isn't a gelatin. Its like ROCK.

If we were going completely realistic:
Marines would have SMARTGUNS that are basically aimbots.
Aliens would be capable of instant killing a marine, and standing on top of a downed marine would KEEP him down.
Aliens would also need to outnumber marines by about 100 to 1 to have a chance.

Also, why no resin on jungles? I understand on the water, but no jungle weeds? Weeds should choke the jungle, make it even harder to walk through.

And that 'jungle' looks like grass to me. It doesn't even impede sight. Unless we're talking about something completely different and I never found the jungle.

I'd like the ability to drench a marine on the spot to make him unable to get up without resisting, like a 30 second restraint on the ground. The downside is that when you drag him, its slow because of how heavy and sticky he is. This would be used primarily for securing a host.

Oh and in the movies drones, or possibly other aliens, can turn humans into eggs.

Also, why are drones so nonlethal in combat? They do shit tier damage, but in the first movie, here's a little tidbit most people miss.

The alien in the first movie was a drone, and it was killing as easy as breathing.

Evil, it is a matter of Realism and BYOND's Coding powers. Have Smartguns that fire bullets that break hulls with aim assit for a 2D Game. IS NOT easy (or impossible) for BYOND.

Buffing Nest is.

The jungle turfs ARE grass, the dense turfs aren't in yet. When they are, it'll be a twisty little maze of dense and nondense turfs, making it much better for xenos and more difficult for marines. Marines will also be able to hack the dense turfs down into jungle flooring like it is now.

Ah. Okay.

Out of curiosity, what size are the average BYOND sprites, I might make some in my spare time if I'm bored.

either 32x32 or 64x64
As far as nests, the reason they work the way they do, is balance. If the marines, are in the Xeno hive, they are basically screwed, but they MIGHT be able to get out of a nest, and put up a resistance.

It's sort of a "second chance" as a marine.

In Alpha will Resin get a Health buff so it isnt made of Pudding? Because the Resin we have now is for Vanillia Servers that their best weapon is a crowbar

Interesting concept you have here but I fear that nesting is already balanced enough. although some movement impairment for marines on weeds would be handy.

Not really. The Resin isn't concrete, it's meant to be bypassable easily.

In the alpha it would be nice to have "Stone" walls and doors for aliens but currently as it is with the hivelord spamming out doors constantly... i can see this as maybe being a problem as the map we use currently is fairly small...

If your hive is so poorly designed, that a single marine can line-up an MG (which has, like, 800 rounds if they scavenge ALL the rounds on the entire ship) and ruin your day forever, your doing it wrong.

There's a BILLION things you could do, like flanking.
