[ALPHA] Hostile Mobs

Post by TopHatPenguin » 07 Jul 2015, 21:06

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Basically this came about from talking with Starscream123
about that we should ahve some hostile mobs like jungle cats ( Well something like that ) to add diversity in between the fighting of xenos and marines.
Maybe make it so that there aren't too many of these hostile mobs so that it doesn't distract marines or aliens from the round.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):More diverse rounds with more enemies.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Diverse rounds with hostile mobs and such causing more Rp to happen.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding and spriting.

This was rushed just to warn you.

Eh. I'm alright with mobs not too hostile... Just a neutral mob to marines... But will attack aliens on sight.. Something like that.

Neutral to marines but hostile to aliens? Why? Wouldn't even make as much sense.

...It would make sense as Aliens have been there for quite of time, attacking their herd, as they don't give a shit about marines.

But if the mobs are also predatory animals with no superior intelligence it would make sense they would attack marines. I think Marines are supposed to be the "prey" of the game and having like, idk, panthers and bears assisting them in killing their "predators" (the aliens, no Yautja reference intended) it would kind of break the game sense.

Possible. Change xeno mobs default faction to 'alien' and any "hostile" mob factions to 'neutral.' They will attack anything that isn't also 'neutral.' Although, this means they would never attack marines, even if attacked first.

Most predatory animals to my knowledge only attack humans to defend territory or young. They wouldn't charge head on into a herd of marines. Although they also wouldn't charge head on into a herd of tank sized xenomorphs. Best to keep them neutral to everyone and exist as fluff, and use code magic to make them 'retaliatory' mobs like Araneus on Urist, Paradise or clown mobs on /tg/, etc so they only attack to defend themselves.

Maybe just have them in some specific rounds, kinda like when that giant spider event happened on the pre-Alpha?

Give predators more things to hunt. Take out the monkeys and make it so the aliens have to earn their animal-infections.

With the current balance and flow of the game the aliens really need those monkeys.

I'm all for a couple of random mobs maybe a few single giant beast guarding unique locations.

Perhaps a temple that holds the Predators plasma cannons?

Something along those lines, it would stop the predators from early game hunting aliens during their build up stage. Yet it would also give the predators something to do.

Bump.
Gives both humans and aliens another enemy to fight, which means more active gameplay without player deaths.
Gives aliens a better source of larvae, which is great, because Hippocratic aliens who never harm marines suck.
If implemented, gives ghosts another way to spend time. (Playing as an animal should be less interesting than playing as an alien.)
