-1 to be honest the marines from the movie never used gas masks, it would kind of ruin the Aliens feel subsequently. Also chemical warfare isn't a thing against Xenomorphs. Plus if you want a gas mask for aesthetics you can still get one, just not from the lockers.

Why would it ruin the feel?

Chemical warfare also works just fine; if people, including admins, can make disposal traps to use against the aliens, why not chemnades? These traps are way more immersion shattering and at odds with Aliens canon than gas masks or poison gas.

It just goes against the lore imo. Colonial Marines never used gas masks unless they were in an environment with no oxygen for example. And chemical warfare, as implied in the movie, wouldn't likely do anything to the Xenomorphs.

Where did it say in the canon that chemical weapons would be useless against Xenos?

To take away from his reasoning for GM's....

I'll add one important one.. you lose contact on a "Alien" mining station/colony/planet. One of the primary suspected reasons would be some sort of Mining or atmospheric issue..

All marines would be equipped with Gas Mask's.

-1, breath masks are fine. Plus it would look pretty bad.

This is a response team. Why are they prepping for chemical warfare?

Precisely.

It's not about prepping for chemical warfare thematically/lorewise (that's a secondary benefit once things escalate; synergy with chemical warfare would be a mechanical benefit of their addition), it's about preparedness. An emergency response team lacking information besides an abrupt loss of contact would most certainly be equipped with this sort of basic protective gear.

Have you watched Aliens? They didn't show up wearing gas-masks.

Would you be fine with this if we replaced the gas-mask sprite with something a lot less intimidating looking?

When did they use instagib disposal traps in Aliens? Silly, immersion breaking, hard to justify ICly yet totally allowed and increasingly common.

No one is forcing players to use gas masks either; it's there as an option/for use as needed.

I'm a firefighter and I can absolutely tell you when by command we'd be ordered to enter a area with a gas mask.. This exactly situation would be one, no questions asked. Command probably relay that after atmospherics was checked that you could remove the mask. Obviously firefighters and the military are different.... but all Firefighters follow a Para-Military doctrine which is borrowed from the military.

The current gas mask though is actually really fitting for the marines.. and it makes sense.
There is a current gas mask that I believe is on Hippie Station that has more of clear facial view if you want to hop on there and check it out.

If you put gas masks in lockers any player will automatically assume it's standard gear, therefore we'll see literally 90% of marines going around looking like grunts from Half Life. And yes in Aliens it is implied that chemical warfare wouldn't affect them, Hicks said so himself.

Making instagib disposal traps is one thing (which I literally have never seen in the game but whatever). I could see the marines in the Aliens movie adapting to the situation and improvising some kind of ambush or defense for the aliens, in fact they do that in the movie. But showing up in gas masks when they're supposed to basically be Vietnam-era soldier rip offs (yes in case you don't know the entire Aliens movie is a metaphor for the Vietnam war) is just going against the lore. Either way this is just my opinion, I think it's unnecessary. If you want to look badass by having a gas mask then you're free to do it, but I don't think every player should be influenced to have it. It would make the marines look too intimidating when they're supposed to be the prey and the Aliens the predators.

Anyway this is my 2 cents. My -1 remains. Just let the others give their opinion to see if people really want this or not. Maybe I'm just wrong, who knows.

EDIT: I notice you have a grudge on the whole instagib disposal trap thingy. Since I haven't seen it I can't judge it, but maybe you should talk to the admins about it so they can enforce some rule regarding that thing, since it could very well be an OP feature.

In response to unkut... GM's are standard for deployment in unknown territory, theyve been standard since WW1. People should have the choice, some people care about seeing their face and some people enjoy gas mask. They don't imbalance anything regarding fighting, so why not?

josh, id love to see it... Im fine with the normal one simply because it forms to the helmet we use well, where as other masks look awful.

-1 Mate with the new ground map you have little to no reason for a gas mask unless its for cosmetic looks. The colonial marines in the movies did not wear gas masks and to be honest I find it to be a bit lore breaking myself.

The ground map is not "unknown territory", it's a colony where lots and lots of terraformers have been living there for years. It's acknowledged that the air is and has always been breathable there so issuing GM's to the marines would be entirely unnecessary even from a military point of view.

Looks really nice, I'd be all for replacing that with the current breath mask.

If anything is lore-breaking/odd looking it's half the marines running around with the Breath Mask on simply because they shove it on. At least that looks freaken cool!

The trap isn't instagib, and it was made within a few rounds by a person i already told off. Is this your only argument?

-1 regardless. I'm all for having the existing gas masks replaced with that sweet new icon tho.
