Loadouts for Marines?

Post by Mboddz » 27 Jul 2015, 18:11

CM Version (alpha or Regular): Both

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Add the option to make loadouts in the character creation screen and possibly shin/knee guards for the marines. THIS WOULD BE COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. The marine vendor would still function as normal.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This would make the brief and prep periods so much smoother and quicker if implemented right.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Marines would be able to pick prebuilt loadouts in the character creation screen. This would be a win win for everyone, although the aliens may lose some of their prep time as a result).

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): A section could be added into the character creation screen that would allow the selection of a Primary, Secondary, and other equipment (flares, ammo, etc). When a marine swipes his ID card at the marine vendor it could dispense what has been listed on the loadout screen. This would be such a timesaver for everybody on the sulaco. Let me know what you guys think.

P.S. Possibru shin/knee guards for marines? There's been a spree of legless marines lately -_-

Meh, I think it'd take away from some of the RP aspect. Gearing up is essential because it lets you get to know who your team members are and allows you to get into a role.

The pregame character creation screen could have a loadout section. You wouldn't have to use it but if you did, you could have a kit set up on your ID that when you swipe it at the vendor it just gives you all your stuff right there. So instead of having to click the rifle, then the all the individual magazines, a pistol, flares, and so on; you could just swipe your ID and have it all at your feet in an instant. Saves a shit ton of time if you use it.

And yeah Lost that was one of the few downsides I saw to it. At the same time you would still have to see all your teammates when putting on your armor and such. This idea was purely for the marine vendor.

Nah. I don't see this being a thing considering you are hopping out of cryo sleep... Maybe as gear you can select from the armor but not from when you get out of cyro

I think he's talking about Call of Duty loadouts.

No guys...As in you have a load out saved on your ID (if you choose to do so). You still wake up out of cryo, you still have to put all your gear on and what not. However, instead of meticulously clicking every magazine or flare at the marine vendor, you could just swipe your ID and have your gun, ammo, and whatever be dispensed at once.

Example: I have a Pulse Rifle, Pistol, some mags, and some flares saved on my loadout. I swipe my ID at the vendor and it all dispenses at once instead of sitting there clicking each individual item X number of times over. There is literally no reason not to do this except "stuff not being a pain in the ass means its not RP". It couldn't even be abused because its all stuff you'd be getting from the vendor anyway and the number of slots your character has remains the same.

What if, say, for some reason you were told to take specific gear and had to change your loadout mid round? What happens when you need a spare gun, but not 500 ammo clips? What about when you change roles at the beginning of a round because you changed your mind about what you wanted to play? The loadout system doesn't give enough flexibility to fit in with the constantly changing environment of CM.

Dude then you just walk over and change your stuff out. That's something that happens anyway so whats the problem? The loadout system would be something completely optional with the swipe of an ID. You could still use the vendor the normal way. And what do you mean 500 spare clips? Your slots stay the same no matter what.

You're acting like this changes the games fundamental mechanics when all it would do is provide an optional way to expedite the initial trip to the vendor. It doesn't mean you cant use the vendor normally if you want/have to.

The main reason it's the way it is (besides people not wanting to code for it) is that it allows that prep time for the aliens. You actually said that the reduced prep time for aliens would be a downside yourself, and it indeed is the largest problem. Aliens have about 10-30 minutes to prepare depending on how shit the marines are that round allowing them to grow their hive's numbers by a lot. Doing this loadout system would probably reduce the time to 10-15 minutes which would give them little to no time at all to setup and evolve, while the marines would already be 100% capable and ready.

If the loadouts are just a quick way of having the vending machine dispense things, then I see it as another way for a bunch of marine gear to run out before the round is even through it's first 30 minutes. Griefers would probably figure out ways to abuse the system so that they can empty the vending machines as quick as possible, and once again, this would remove some of the RP aspect of the game. This system would encourage people to rambo more often, as loadouts are designed to be a quick and easy way to get right back into the action and back to shooting shit. The idea of loadouts supports the polar opposite kind of gameplay we want on the server; we want you to meticulously hand pick every, single, item, so you put some thought into what your future actions will be in the round. We want the equipment to be a pain to get out so you think twice about tossing your gear around the place, or about attacking the enemy recklessly.
