Ability to play as the animals (Jones, Ian, maybe the monkies or mice)
CM Version (alpha or Regular):
Either
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
the Ability to play as Jones or Ian whence observing
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Gives people more choice. There's times when i've wanted to be Jones, it keeps me engaged in the game when i'm busy doing other things and am not devoting my entire attention to the game. It proves useful to keep the somewhat engaged on the server as exampled with Paradise station.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Get into observer and have the ability located in one of the tabs. This is the case in Paradise station.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

-1 I don't need Jones dragging ammo and shit around the battlefield. Or whatever other crazy stuff that Jones or the other mobs could do if player controlled.

Honestly, I don't see how having the animal NPCs being PC benefits the server, the community, or the setting of the server any more than just keeping them an NPC does. Sure you can build a companionship but really, they're still just animals. If anything they'll serve as an unnecessary distraction to the Sulaco crew that need to focus on their jobs more anyways. -1

I don't understand, I really don't, in all my time as a staff member here and other places people have always wanted to play as animals and there was never a good reason for it. Its just /silly/ when people play as cats or w/e because they aren't really supposed to be a major part of the game and it breaks any sense of realistic behavior for said animals.
No I do not want random players running around as animals.

Maybe if we had jungle apex predators. That'd be one thing, because that'd be something pretty cool, an apex predator duking it out with the preds/aliens/marines.Mordrehel wrote:I don't understand, I really don't, in all my time as a staff member here and other places people have always wanted to play as animals and there was never a good reason for it. Back on topic, this would cause...a mad animal spree.with animals dragging huggers out of cover, same with xenos...or dragging hugged marines away....going neutral for now.
(Dibs on jones....jones must be jones)

I would say that this could only be added if you could become said animal at the beginning of the round as a special role only. Like when you become xeno. In alpha I think you're able to spawn as a mouse too.

Most of the problems that having said animals would create can easily be dealt with by adding rules. No different than rules for humans or xenos.

Re: Ability to play as the animals (Jones, Ian, maybe the monkies or mice)
That's what I call a lot of subjectivity the only point you made was that they're distracting. True. Theres no law against animal cruelty for the marines, they could just shoot em. Really they're no less distracting then humans.Tetsip wrote:Honestly, I don't see how having the animal NPCs being PC benefits the server, the community, or the setting of the server any more than just keeping them an NPC does. -1.
Unlike pAIs and other things ghosts can spawn as, animals have exactly no utility; they do nothing but take up a player slot.

Re: Ability to play as the animals (Jones, Ian, maybe the monkies or mice)
That's kind of the whole reason why I like the idea. Sometimes I'm not engaged in the game completely and have other things that require my attention. Being an animal allows me to be on but not fully engaged.Surrealistik wrote:-1.

Furry Rp inbound if we add this.
On a more serious note being able to play a animal that does nothing wouldn't be so bad and it would give something for dead people to do besides be an alien or bitch all the time about how they died.

Could just disable their ability to drag stuff and just have them only be able to meow/bark, talk to other animals, and sleep/rest.Mordrehel wrote:Eh, I think its senseless and it makes it easier for shenanigans and I don't like shenanigans.

Re: Ability to play as the animals (Jones, Ian, maybe the monkies or mice)
I wouldn't mind this, but I'd only appreciate seeing them on the Sulaco
Having trooper pets is a definite no for me.
Having "stay-at-home" pets would be pretty cool I suppose

+1 for Stay-at-home pets. It would just add to it if a marine returned from the planet injured, To be greeted by medical staff and his dog <3TheCubscout wrote:I wouldn't mind this, but I'd only appreciate seeing them on the Sulaco
