Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I'd like a discussion on changing the alien sounds. I'm not sure what to, but, the current/new ones are just... I don't know.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Cosmetic/immersive benefits.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): The current sounds make the xenos sounds less like aliens, and more like alien pigs. Which sounds really really weird in my mind. I don't know if this is the same thoughts for anyone else, but, as an AVP fan, the sounds do not do the xeno's justice. I don't really have any sound suggestions, but are we able to use sounds from say, AVP2, or AVP Extinction? Or are those not useable due to legal reasons? Heck, in my opinion, the old roars beat the new ones a heck of a lot more.
I guess, I'm just griping about the current alien roar, but I'd like other peoples opinions on the sounds.
Queen Roar: Good
Xeno Hiss: Decent Snake Hiss
Lower Caste Roar: Horrible Pig Noise
Lower Caste Growl: Good Xenomorph Sounding Growl
Runner Pounce: Poor Eagle Sound
Queen Screech: Classic CM sound, but not exactly xeno sounding. Decent.
Xenomorph local talk sound: Horrible Pig Noise or something
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code and Sounds

Re: Change Alien Sounds
A lot of the sounds do come from the old AvP game, including the sounds you think are from pigs.
Fun fact: They were originally made from pigs and elephants. This classic is from an elephant.
But thanks for reminding me about the Runner/Queen sounds.

Which old AVP game. The one I played the most was AVP2, and none of the aliens sounded like pigs to me. AVP:Extinction also had no pig sounding aliens to my recollection. I dunno. It might just be me, but it sounds un-xeno like.

Frankly, the only sound I have problem with is the weed placing sound. It just sounds, er.. weird.

Re: Change Alien Sounds
Good to see another fan of AvP2. Honestly, I'd like to see more sounds taken from it in general, like replacements for airlocks and such.
There's so much to use, and it'd be nice to hear something different to the generic airlock opening.

Re: Change Alien Sounds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7KIbStyj9g - Video of what sounds like mainly AVP2 alien sounds
0:00 - 0:07 growl at the beginning, alien attack sounds near the end.
0:07 - 0:13 are death sounds.
0:14 - ~0:22 are mostly aliens getting hit and taking damage sounds.
0:23 - 0:31 are Queen sounds I believe. Roars and growling and hissing.
0:32 - 0:35 are, i'm not entirely sure. Sounds like aliens on fire, with a sound near the end being another death sound.
0:36 - 0:38 is a great growl/hiss sound. I think it is more of a hiss.
0:38 - 0:40 is an aliens pounce attack sound.
0:40 - 0:42 is a nice hiss
0:42 - 0:44 is a chestburster dieing I believe.
0:45 - 0:50 are alien taunts.
If you need better clips of the various sounds, I think I have AVP2's files laying around here somewhere. Given some time, I could get some good samples. The difference between these sounds, and the current ones, is that instead of sounding like pigs, these sound more alien. At least, in my opinion they do. I might be skewed because these alien sounds are the sounds I heard for 3 or so years of playing this game.
Edit - To get a feel for how the sounds were used, here is a semi recent gameplay vid of marines vs aliens on quarantine. Population is a bit low, but it is the only video I could find that didn't have music blaring in it. It seems that recording gameplay and playing music was big back during ~2003. Also, the reason the Pulse Rifle sounds kinda weird, is because he is 'staggering' his fire. Instead of holding the fire button down, you click rapidly. You get faster fire rate I believe, but it kinda mucks up the sound. Also, some of the marine weapon sounds sound pretty great. In particular, I think the Rocket Launcher fire sound is fantastic. As stated above, I still got the game files somewhere, so I can load it up and isolate some sounds better than the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnto4Cy7dwQ - Survivor on Quarantine. Basically zombies mode.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkq3xKcKE1Y - Standard TDM with predators, aliens, and marines. Mainly Alien and Marine perspective. A small bit of Predator perspective at 27:09.
Edit 2 - In addition to alien sounds, the second video has a few predator sounds that might make a good addition. I might have to just go and record a bunch of sounds in one file, and just upload them for listening pleasure/game sound additions.
