  1. Pour out petroleum on water.
  2. Set petroleum on fire
  3. ...
  4. PROFIT! WATER ON FIRE, HELP!
What I wanted to say: It's okay.

I do agree with the player that spraying flamethrowers over the water does sound unrealistic... However, how about spraying above...

I take no sides in this suggestion.

Assuming that Phoron is analogous with gasoline or napalm based flamethrowers a little water is not going to stop that fire. Perhaps creatures that enter the water could take reduced fire damage or if on fire be put out, but water itself will not stop that level of fire as the burning material remains above the water's surface where there is plenty of oxygen to breathe.

So -0.5 perhaps a damage reduction in water, but it should still work on water.

Are you forgetting, that flaming water is a REAL THING with flamethrower fuel or gas?

just write it off as "working as intended" then, from a realism standpoint it seems like things are working as is, i know usually water is epic at putting out fires but in those cases the water is being actively thrown or dropped onto the fire (in some respects thats kind of like smothering the fire to boot now that i think of it, depending on your definition of the term) as opposed to just....sitting there doing nothing, chilling underneath the fire in question where no fucks are given, aside from which thats kind of the nasty bit about any kind of military grade combustible substance.

if you get set on fire from an accident or something getting on your clothes or even by running through a fire like a dumbass, running through a river would TOTALLY put you out or even just falling down and doing the whole, "stop drop and roll" procedure.

if you get hit by napalm....well your just fucked, that shit keeps on fucking going until it has consumed every bit of fuel it has feeding the flame in question (the fire keeps going until ALL the napalm is consumed), if it gets on your skin theres basically nothing ANYONE can do, if it got on your skin then its taking your skin with it, you jump in a river? the napalm doesn't fucking care, it'll keep burning till its GONE because its napalm and therefor, "like a boss" when it comes to matters of a burnable nature, you think the river is going to win? what do you think these things are filled with? thats assuming we dont have some kind of badass space napalm from the future, what happens when it becomes realistic to just fill flamethrowers with chunks of goo we picked up from the sun? we actually have to spend money manufacturing napalm but stars are right THERE! there's fucking BILLIONS of these things in our night sky ALONE!

Flamethrowers - 1

River - 0

your move nature.

Aye and napalm if they would be using it, which I don't see why they wouldn't, is a gel sort of liquid which means it doesn't just dose you and you are on fire, that shit sticks on you and won't be coming off anytime soon. So as Macarthur and the others are saying, you be fucked mate.

Technicly the flamethrower could be firing ABOVE the water, but we cant see it since this is a 2D topdown game

I don't see not being able to fire over water being a problem. Even short sustained fires over the surface is more realistic than no fire at all in the river.

Yea the flamer is using a gas base fuel so it's essentially lighting the air on fire over the water. The fire isn't on the water.

What I'd like to see is an alien on fire being able to put themselves out in the river or the pool. I don't know if I should make an extra suggestion thread for that though.

Aliens only get caught on fire by the sniper, and they can put it out IMMEDIATELY (no delay) with the resist button.

There is a stun, though. But it really isn't important.

The river is a brook, problem solved.

The fire is NAPALM, which burns on/under water.
