Ammo Crate Designer 2k15

Post by bobbahbrown » 02 Aug 2015, 18:23

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
As inspired by this post...
Jeser wrote:I'm for:
  1. Increasing initial amounts of 10 mm ammo.
  2. Change crates in cargo. Now "Large calibre crate" has 5 10mm ammo and 2 or 3 shotgun boxes (which is ridiculous, really). I want them to separate into "10mm crate" (10-15 mags) and "Shotgun ammo crate" (3-5 boxes).
It would be wonderful if the RO and assorted underlings could merely customize what arrives in their ammo crates, thus allowing for a precision in product ordering that has never been seen before. Implement, in place of the current crates under the "ammo" category, a panel to choose which types of ammo and the number of which would be requisitioned.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This would benefit cargo as it would allow for the fine-tuned spending of requisition points, instead of half of a crate order being wasted, as you may have only required good X and half of the crate is filled with good Y. (See the above quote for an example) As opposed to the above solution, which would just be individual crates for each ammo type, this would be more beneficial as it would allow for the RO or his lackeys to get exactly the number of munitions they need, streamlining the process as they won't have to order a large amount of the same type of crate.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
This system would work by swapping out the existing menu for ordering ammunition with a new menu, with a setup for customizing the contents of the ammunition crate. Each type of ammo would have a set cost per unit or per however many units, i.e. 10mm magazines x5 = 7 requisition points, or 9mm magazine x1 = 2 requisition points, etc...

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
This could be implemented, as stated above, into the requisition panel. Creating a window that allows for the customization of the contents of an ammunition crate. Additionally, such a concept could be applied to the entirety of cargo if the developers so desired, allowing for the overhaul of the existing requisition system. Instead of ordering individual crates filled with goods that you do not need half of (as viewed in attachment crates, ammunition crates, and more) the cargo team can specifically spend their requisition points on EXACTLY what they need.

Well, I thought of this already. This would be right what RO now needs, but I think it's not very easy to make. I never saw customizable cargo orders, maybe, because it's impossible to make??

Yay! My posts inspire people!

Or... Just bring the entire ammo in a bundle to save us the time. Like a care package.

All kinds of ammo in this huge crate and ship it, saving the time for marines while they are in a critical state as in almost being overruled and running out of supplies, and a higher demand.

Supply and Demand is important as a Requistion Officer.

Through this you've emphasized the issue that I have laid out before you. RO's [and squads] do not want every kind of ammo nor will they use every kind of it. Instead having the ability to streamline this process would save the precious requisition points. Rather make that giant ammo crate dirt cheap or provide an avenue for that streamlining.

Well, I asked Lead Developer from other server, he said that he don't know how custom orders can be realized, cause it's very complicated and looks like nobody on any server did this.

1. Add an ammo vendor
2. Cange the vars so that you can walk through it/drag crates through it.
3. Resprite it so that walking through it makes sense.
4. Change the inventory so that it has only ammo.
5. Make it orderable and have it come in a crate, done.

Essentially, the RO would order this, drag a crate on top of it, dispense whatever ammo is needed, close the crate, and then drag it off. This results in a crate filled with exactly whatever amount of ammo the RO wants.
We'd call it the munitions resupply machine or something.

Alternatively, in the ammo section of the ordering console, make it so that each ammo type comes in its own crate.

I told about that already few times. It's the most simple and logic thing and I don't understand why they still didn't do that.
