Marine Speed VS Xenomorph Speed

Post by Atpot » 03 Aug 2015, 12:05

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
I feel that xeno speeds and marine speeds are far too similar aside from the runner class and evolution. Example of this is a group of marines chasing down a drone or sentinel in the open and killing it. Xenomorphs are apex predators and should be able to outrun humans, But too much of a buff will break the game. My suggestion is to give Weeds a de-buff on marines running/walking speed.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
-It will add a more diverse combat situation for both sides.
-Allows drones and sentinels a bit more leeway on escaping unwanted encounters.
-Gives marines a purpose to cut weeds down when entering a nest or fending off encounters at the FOB.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
-Marines step onto the weeds and slow down 10-15% while on them.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
N/A

Aliens already get a speed and health regen buff on weeds. I don't see the need to slow marines down especially since runners, hunters, and ravagers have gap closers and the sentinel line has ranged attacks. -1

They do not get a speed buff on weeds, just an FYI. Thank you for the input!

I'm almost 100% positive aliens get a speed buff on weeds. If you have evidence otherwise I'd be glad to see it and be corrected. But from my own experience and what I've heard they get a speed buff.

Talked about it with absy already gentlefood, It was confirmed they do not have speed buffs on weeds. Sticky resin is also kind of a joke, but say if sticky resins effects stacked ontop of a weeds debuff, This in turn would make sticky resin effective enough to employ.

What is the exact extent of the sticky resin speed debuff?

As far as I can tell surreal Its so minute I can't really tell if there is a debuff or not when they step on sticky resin. IMO I don't think it does anything to impair marines from bootjacking wherever they please.

I stand corrected on the speed buff then. However I still feel its not necessary due to the other aforementioned reasons.

Just curious, Are you referring to what you stated about weeds giving a health regen? or the fact xenomorphs have ranged attacks? Because if you are, those two things are not really relevant to a speed de buff. Also sticky resin is worthless, any marine that has stepped on it can vogue it has done nothing to impede them.

Edit:

Also just witnessed a hunter get run down in a open clearing while standing on weeds the whole time. Imo marines should not be able to run as fast as a hunter or any xenomorph for that matter. They are Apex Hunters, You don't see lions getting chased down on foot by humans... Just my logic speaking.

I was talking about the gap closers mostly. Which can also be used to run away. The ranged attacks provide a stun so that's also relevant to mobility.

That isn't Abs.. that's Johners... in the picture

EDIT: Also aliens do gain a minor speed buff on weeds compared to not on them.

Johnner only expressed her/his beliefs... Johnner is a trial moderator... Abysnth/Abby is a full developer.

I asked Abysnth as well, Again same response as Johners. Stated there was no speed buff on weeds. Only reason I posted johners was because he was the one who responded to the Ahelp question about it.

Edit: Didn't think I needed to screen cap the conversation between me and Abysnth for the credibility of what I'm saying.

I thought you got muddled up that was all.On another note i'm fairly sure they do get a minor speed buff on weeds, well they use to old cm so i thought that might still be the case i be wrong however.

They do not here, if anything, you get a debuff walking in the water and in the grass. Something needs to fix the speed as right now 3 marines can chase down a hunter, spitter, sentinel, drone etc no problem. I remember before alpha when we had the old forum, Apop said he did not want marines to be on the same speed as xenos. No idea why it has not been changed.

What you feel as a debuff might be just from where on the weeds you are getting buffed to move faster so when you step off you feel that the "Normal" speed you associate with being on weeds is being debuffed.

Oh no, trust me, I've tried just walking on sand and walking on weeds, I'm not any faster. It would be nice to have a weed speed buff though. Even more incentive to place as many weeds as possible.

Fact, this has been changed. Humans now are slowed on weeds, aliens do not get a speed buff.

In my opinion* aliens should overall be faster than marines unless they're like T3 aliens. They're made for chasing down host, so they should be faster than most (I didn't do that on purpose I swear).

The second line of text is a suggestion, not what's been changed. Sorry for the confusion.

If that is true lost than there is still a significant amount of balancing that needs to be done to make it noticeable. I watched a hunter get out run by marines in the open, the kicker is they were on weeds the entire time. This has actually happened to me as well on multiple occasions.

Oh alright, but yeah at the moment a marine is moving as fast as the ultimate predator (Xenomorphs) which is wrong.

I understand they should be a little faster then marines, which they already are, but if you buff it any more they will be nearly too fast for any actual return fire due to the bullet speed.
