Re: Alien distinction
I'm on the "yes, please," bandwagon. The reasons why have been explained by others.

Re: Alien distinction
Marine name would work too, I already brought up the point of Ckeys being shown to bad, kinda. The nicknames that were brought up sound appealing too, more so than marine name being slapped in. I'm all for the distinction system being implemented.Sligneris wrote:I think that showing a human name or a Ckey during the game would be even more immersion-breaking than the hivemind chat already tends to be. Not only that, it would support metagrudging in many cases, since if a player angers someone they can see a name to lash out on. Ckeys should never be forcefully revealed to non-staff in IC environment, especially if the round is ongoing.
We could go back to the old system of showing Ckeys of aliens at round end, I suppose. Still, that does prove to be currently a bit glitchy with Queens.
I suppose it would do with an option to set a preferred alien number in character setup? That if it's not already taken during the round, we could have it represent us across rounds? That would be the only way I'd support this idea implemented in ongoing rounds.
Fun to be had, time to be glad.

Re: Alien distinction
And if favoritism card is played the round start random generated codename for ooc noticing xenos can be used. Boom, no favoritism. So each round you would get a xeno ooc nick that would stay in all your xeno lifes during this one round only. That would be the best way. And it is much easier to ask who was playing the aliens >insert ooc xeno nickname<, than say every number from 1 to 1000 for every xeno caste.

Re: Alien distinction
I'd like something just so you can build a reputation as a xeno like you can as a marine.
Couple ideas:
Ckey or first few letters of ckey added to the end of current xeno name
or,
Assign each player a number that persists between rounds. Like a 4 digit hex number as an example. So one round I could be Hunter (05A3) and the next I could be Hivelord (05A3)

this is good, do this. Give players the option to reroll a new one if they wanttuzz wrote: Assign each player a number that persists between rounds. Like a 4 digit hex number as an example. So one round I could be Hunter (05A3) and the next I could be Hivelord (05A3)

Re: Alien distinction
Queen (S666) would be horrifying to find because you remember that said alien massacring entire marine groups the past rounds so far...

Re: Alien distinction
Bumping this up for awareness, because it's something that should be a thing. Aliens get no means to recognize other xeno players round after round, leaving it impossible for them to build up a reputation, history, friendships. Yes, xenos are SUPPOSED to have friends in the hive, but it's nice to know that Player A has worked with you in the past, and you both did amazing.
There was a runner from one of my Queen rounds, I believe it was Runner 652. In a single round, as a runner, they managed to capture NINE marines on their own. As a xeno player, I WANT to know which runner they are, so I know which one to either hunt with, or send out on dangerous tasks.
Xenos deserve just as much round to round recognition as marines, and a little bit of flavor to them. Maybe you want to make yourself Half-Dome, because in your little xenoy background, you lost half of your dome to the survivors. Add in naming restrictions, yes, no Bob the Runner, but give the aliens SOMETHING to let their deeds be remembered round after round, instead of the post round ooc of "Oh, I was Ravager 3!" when everyone was praising you. It's easy to forget that. Seeing the same name, over and over, and learning who is tied to it, allows for another community of players to be grown.
I know, I'm one to talk, this is my third post, but by the empress, it'd be nice to have people know who did what, and praise and scorn accordingly. I am sure it wouldn't be too hard. Facehuggers are "unidentified" to marines (Or at least me, I've seen in several times) so why not just have xenos pop up as "Ravager" "Runner" to the marines, while they retain their names for the xenos?
I'm sure it'd be a bitch to code, but it's the little quality of life things that really help improve things. I am sure that somewhere in the storm of buffs, nerfs, tweaks, and changes, that could slip in.

Marines, don't say favouritism. We can use the exact same argument against you.
Don't say that it ruins immersion, because it can just be done as said above. Alien names only visible to other aliens.
Ah crap I ran out of points. Oh well.

Make then marines names visible only to marines to prevent meta-aiming and it's deal.Boltersam wrote:Fuck it. All of this, I agree with all of this.► Show Spoiler

Make all marine names randomly generated so it's even.

If the name conceal can be done one way, it can be done the other. I see no problem hiding the names of both sides from one another.

+1 As someone who plays a shitton of alien and rarely marine, it'd be nice for people to have a notice of "Oh this was the guy to de-capped four marines without retreating at all I like him and now have a notice that he actually plays on the server." Type of thing going.

This was denied before. It is probably going to remain that way unless Apop and the Dev team change their minds.

I believe this is not going through with some other planned changes, so yeah, denied.
