[Alpha] Constructible Surgery Tables

Post by Surrealistik » 06 Aug 2015, 04:43

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Per subject.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Allow for creation of additional surgery theaters on the Sulaco and at the FOB; improves Medbay efficiency during busy periods.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
  1. Surgery table requires 10 metal, and 20 seconds to construct via the metal build option (this is not practical for use as a barricade).
  2. Dismantled via the wrench.
  3. Repaired via welder (if it's taken damage from aliens).
  4. Aliens can slash them apart; HP equal to a table.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Very minor coding changes.

+0 You can make beds and buckle marines to them for surgery. However, if this is possible it would be nice. Also you can use roller beds as makeshift surgery tables.

-1, field surgery needs to remain field surgery, use tables, beds and roller beds (ascending order of success chance per step).

Prehaps look at making a Portable Surgical Suite that Medbay has that's useful for FoB's, so that you can do proper surgery on the planet but you have to commit a rare resource to it, a resource that can be destroyed or lost.
This is war, survival is your responsibility.

I'm aware; I'm also aware on the success chance progression for roller beds, beds, tables, etc. That said, I should not have to grapple with bullshit strings of randomly dicing someone with the circular saw when I'm on the damn Sulaco at a minimum where I'm swimming in resources because the other theaters are occupied.

Further, you can easily build cloners planet side, so, why the 'field surgery needs to remain field surgery' purists? If you can spare the time and resources, you should be able to set up a surgery table; if you want to increase the resources needed and make building one more inconvenient than simply finding a large stack of metal, sure; make a suggestion then. There are far worse offenders so far as expanding medical capabilities and conveniences to the FOB go.

Field surgery is field surgery, they are ghetto surgery and made during emergencies, you don't have time for normal surgery with all higienical procedures.

See above.

We've got the resources and opportunity to build extremely complex machinery which creates entirely new bodies and (apparently) transfers consciousness _in_ the FOB (and that's just one example), but not to build a functional surgery table. Why?

Sugery tables are for weak cowards, real medics do at the ground with two marinea at the same time while keeping the xenos out.

I've done exactly that before.

Unsurprisingly, I'd rather not have a chance of tearing someone apart with a shit RNG roll on my circular saw surgery step in the midst of all that stress and chaos if I can do so with the proper prep.

IMO instead of making tables buildable because cryocells are, we should make cryocells not buildable because tables aren't.

Cryocells aren't buildable, although they should be; as it would help deal with Medbay overwork.

You're thinking about cloners.

Don't at all understand why some people seem eager to keep Medbay overstressed and overworked, even if they would invest the time and effort into making the conduct of their job more efficient. I bet a lot of these are the same people that talk smack about how 'Medbay sucks' because it won't deal with a fractured hand when several people are dying from internal bleeding/chestburster, or don't really play Medbay and rarely if ever have had to experience the overwhelming red tide of bodies.

Nothing sucks worse than having to deal with getting RNGowned during a surgery on someone who's fucked up despite doing everything right, _while_ you're dealing with all this other shit going on.

Just because it's field surgery doesn't mean it has to be ghetto and ineffective. If the marines are able to setup an FOB and properly prepare it to do surgery, then let them. There's no reason to not allow marines to prepare better. My only requirement would have to be that these surgery tables would have to be built by engineer and not a medic.

Exactly.

If you invest the time, effort and resources into improving your FOB surgery there's no reason it shouldn't be more efficient and effective.

Use a rollerbed and you'll be fine.
