Talking During Cameras

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Alright, so something I personally hate and I'm sure others may as well, is having to cancel out of viewing the security cameras to talk. At least, this is a problem for people who use hotkeys and press "t" everytime they want to say something, I assume you can still speak through the command line, so this is rather minor. No person should be mute just because they're looking through cameras, and other servers do this just fine, so I was hoping that the same could be done here.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Well people who use hotkeys wouldn't have to cancel out of the camera view anymore just so they can talk over the radio or to someone else who is in the room. Saves them some minor irritation and time.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Instead of having to cancel out of the camera view to speak, you should just be able to press "t" and type why you want to say normally. (again, I use hotkeys.)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Some coding magic, I would assume. Like I said, other servers seem to have this working just fine, so I can't imagine it'd be too hard to change. But I could be wrong.

It's mostly because I grew into it with other games so the fact that I can do it in SS13 really makes things easier on me.

Worked fine in overwatch when I looked through the head camera. Should work fine for normal cam's too.

Stop using hot keys. Thats how you be robust. You use arrow keys. much more effictive.

Arrow keys literally go against every gaming convention I've ever been taught. I'll never understand why arrow keys are the default.

then be unrobust. hotkeys make it more difficult to use chat. they are default because it is just more effective to use them. Have the rest of the keyboard free for other stuff.

Also on an unrelated note. Stop screming for help and giving no location. What good is that going to do you?

Huh. All I know is that whenever I try to use the camera's in the CL's office, I'm unable to type(with hotkeys on), so I don't really know what to say.

Everything. Literally everything about hotkeys is wonderful. Especially the fact you can use WASD to control.

Why should it matter whether one prefers hotkeys and one prefers to not use them? Fact is this issue is addressed to accommodate all players regardless of what method they prefer to use to move around.

If i recall correctly wasn't this more of a bug ?

Anyway, even if this isn't a bug i support it so that the hotkey players can't be oppressed by cameras.

I play with hotkeys and have literally never had this problem.

This might have to do with the fact that the screen is concentrated in the camera dialog box instead of the screen.
Now that I think of it, this problem might have to do with the fact that you can only have 1 dialog box and the camera's selection menu counts as one, so it's more of a byond/camera implementation problem.
A solution would be change the camera to use another type of window instead of a dialog box.
A workaround would be to stop using dialog boxes to speak and use the command line like everybody else.
