Marine HUD's
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I don't know about other marine players... but there is quite a bit of time, where trying to follow the squad lead, gets hard. Even if he's talking, it's hard to figure out who's the leader, from a regular marine. Sure, the leader-helmet/armor helps, but when it gets damaged, it's incredibly hard to tell that it's special. Engineers and medic's get jumpsuits, but don't always wear them. I suggest giving marines optional simple hud glasses, (One eye hud, perhaps) and giving marine jobs specific hud icons.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It would make following the squad leader, a ton easier, as well as picking out unique roles a bit easier as well. Hopefully less marines following the group, and instead, the squad leader.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Pretty much as above.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I assume you could probably butcher part of the Sec-hud code to get Simple Hud's like security ones, without the ability to change marine record. It'd honestly make some things a bit easier.

It would probably work best if implemted on the armor instead of glasses. Medics typically wear medical scanner glasses and engineers wear mensons or welding goggles.
Everyone wears the armor.

What do you mean by implemented in armor?? Engineers almost always have uniform or at least industrial backpack, by the way.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:It would probably work best if implemted on the armor instead of glasses. Instead of the HUD being applied when the Security shades are worn, we could make it so that it appears when the M3 Armor is worn.Jeser wrote: What do you mean by implemented in armor?? Engineers almost always have uniform or at least industrial backpack, by the way.
It would be a good solution even though it wouldn't (fully) make sense.

Ah, I got it. But, really, put it in helmet. It will be a bit more logical (in-built in helmet small monitor in front of eye, that shows proffesions). That would be very good.

I'm only worried about it getting *slightly* cluttered for some people, hence the request for it to be optional to wear.

Without amount of marines in a squad, It can be? *shrugs* I'm just trying to play the devil's advocate. I don't think it'd be in the way.

I would love a Marine HUD. Would hopefully work similarly to a security scanner. With specific Icons for squad members only. No need to have the hud drawn for other squads. Not sure how to code it though, or if it's possible.

Marine HUDs with waypoints + a Queen like directional indictor set by the Squad Leader or CO/BO ala Natural Selection would be pretty cool.

Re: Marine HUD's
Too complicated. We just need indicators for squad. SL = star, Engie - wrench, Medic - red cross, standard - bullet, Spec Ops - dunno, exclamation mark or letter "S".Surrealistik wrote:Marine HUDs with waypoints + a Queen like directional indictor set by the Squad Leader or CO/BO ala Natural Selection would be pretty cool.

The interface part is easy; the only complicated part would be the coordinate designator from a design perspective, that would require placing points on a minimap; perhaps the Crew Monitoring Computer minimap code could work as a base.Jeser wrote: Too complicated.
From a gameplay perspective this is simplicity itself.

Re: Marine HUD's
Yes! I would love this. They have SLIGHTLY different looking armor and if you have a hud it will tell you, But in the midst of combat or trying to follow the squad lead during a patrol, It is just too difficult without it.

It couldn't be an actual HUD item, as that'd fuck with medical and engineers. If engineers actually use mesons, I dunno.

I would love for a MarineHUD to be integrated in the standard helmets. Even just having a color icon to see who's in your squad would be great. I'm imagining it like the SecHUD but with colors. It would seriously make it easier to stick with your squad when Command orders three different squads to assault the caves.

Re: Marine HUD's
this or the marine meta marks suggestion is truly needed, right now its basically impossible to tell one job apart from any other job, squad leaders especially need to be readily identifiable and that radio shit isn't effective on its own anymore now that only the BO's can really effectively communicate between both the sulaco and the planet, sure engineers and medics sometimes wear the backpacks but that doesn't help the SL's out any (and of course there is the whole, "only sometimes" thing)
as it is sometimes the only way you can properly find your medic, engineer or SL is if they happen to be a donator and they always go the exact same role nearly every time.

Re: Marine HUD's
Yea, this would be great because you could make little letters that represented everyone's role around you. An "SM" for a standard marine, "S" for specialist, "SL" or "L" for squad leader, and so on. It'd be really nice and keep everyone organized and generally less confused.

Re: Marine HUD's
Yeah, as Marine it'd probably be a neat little thing for the tiny corner to show who's leader. When I play I just kind of wander after whoever's nearby(of my squad) without really processing who's leading and in firefights it can be especially hard to know who to listen to. The chat for SLs being big helps, but I usually have trouble correlating that to their sprite.
+1, not sure how it'd be implemented though

Re: Marine HUD's
MarineHud....that would actually look really cool, but you'd have to change the helmet sprites to fit it. Would it look sorta like those thingies from ghost recon?
Edit: Also, no one pointed out the problem in the title of this suggestion, it's Marine HUDs, not Marine HUD's.

Re: Marine HUD's
Just have to point out my mistakes, don'tcha :c
That said, I still see this as something thats needed.
It isn't that easy to follow the squad leader.
or tell your special roled marines from the rest at times.

Re: Marine HUD's
I agree with this I only notice that I'm either following the wrong squad or have other squad members following me when I'm in the same place for more than a minute discussing with the BO or having the BO saying I'm drifting away from the SL when following a squad.
The stripes really aren't that noticeable and if it's something done to the armor I honestly think it would be uggly or/and still unoticeable.
So it needs to be something like the security, medical or antag huds.
